Shakib Al Hasan is probably the most famous Bangladesh cricketer. The star all-rounder has served Bangladesh cricket since a long time and has been their prime performer. With an experience of 67 Tests, 247 ODIs and 117 T20Is from 2006 till now, Shakib has been a legend for his country. He is currently the world No. 1 all-rounder in T20Is as per latest ICC rankings. In ODIs, he is world NO. 2 all-rounder and third in Tests.
However, much like his on-field performance, Shakib’s of-field activities have been in the news too. There is an in famous visual where he cane be seen shouting at an umpire. Now, a video has come to light where he can be seen assaulting a selfie-seeking fan. According to local reports, the incident happenned on the sidelines of a Dhaka Premier League match .
Shakib is playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the tournament. Ahead of the toss for a match against Prime Bank Cricket Club, a man approached him for selfies and it angered Shakib. He first refused and then upon more insistence, grabbed the man by his neck and almost beat him up.

Weather was too good today then why he’s done this! Wondering! May be he’s making an excuse not to appear in upcoming matches as April is coming back to annoy. There’s no security protocol! I’ve no sympathy for this fan! Man, he’s #Shakib as always! #ShakibAlHasan #Cricket pic.twitter.com/Vd6HpVmYgz

Meanwhile, Shakib is not happy with Bangladesh’ preparation for 2024 T20 World Cup. “In the last World Cup we performed reasonably and though we didn’t do extremely well no one will say we did bad. If that is our benchmark then we have a chance of crossing it in this World Cup and if we want to do that we have to win three matches in the first round,” Shakib told reporters in Dhaka on May 5.
“In Australia (T20 World Cup in 2022) we went after playing against New Zealand and Pakistan and so certainly we went to the World Cup on the back of very good preparation and taking that into consideration this is not ideal. But this is the best we can as far as preparation is concerned.”.
Shakib also ecplained the reason behind Bangladesh playing a series against USA, where the T20 World Cup will be played.
“A big reason behind playing against USA is to get adapted to their conditions and to know about the place because there are not too many players who played in USA. Very few have the experience of playing there in Florida (2018) and we will get accustomed with the conditions by playing this series but at the same time I would say this is not ideal (preparation-wise),” Shakib said.
