Fast bowler Mohammed Shami will turn up for Bengal in its Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy pre-quarterfinal match against Chandigarh at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.
Shami did not take part in Bengal’s training session here on Sunday, but he is expected to lead the attack come match-day.
There is interest around Shami’s fitness, given the speculation around the speedster being called up for the Indian Test team in Australia. Speaking after India’s 10-wicket loss in the second Test at Adelaide, India captain Rohit Sharma stated that “the door is open” for Shami to join the Test squad, provided he is fully fit.
Shami has not played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy thus far, Shami has taken eight wickets in seven matches.
In the second pre-quarterfinal, which will be held at the same venue on Monday, Andhra takes on Uttar Pradesh.
