Right then, that’s all from this game and the series. Rohit Sharma calls KL Rahul over to collect the trophy as he was the captain during the two wins. They join the rest of the teammates and pose for pictures in front of the Champions board. Despite the series going India’s way, both teams will be happy with how things panned out over the course of the series as they look forward to the upcoming mega event. It is now time for the biggest carnival in the sport which kicks off on the 5th of October. Before that, there will be official warmup fixtures starting from Friday, 29th of September. Until then, take care and goodbye!

India’s captain Rohit Sharma says that he is pretty happy with his form and hopes to go all the way along. He adds that they have been playing this format well and taking on the challenges really well. Mentions that it wasn’t the result they wanted today but this game won’t affect them. He says that Jasprit Bumrah seems fit and his return is very important for the squad. He adds that the squad is clear for the World Cup and everyone knows their responsibility and says that the focus will be on the big tournament and will try to stay fresh.

Shubman Gill is the Player of the Series for his excellent showing with the bat in the first two games. Rohit Sharma collects the cheque and the trophy on Gill’s behalf.

Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance. He says that the South Africa tour was a setback. Mentions that he is in a decent place and is fresh ahead of the World Cup. Adds that he is excited to hit the ground running. Shares that if Mitchell Marsh had been there, they would have chopped and changed with the ball. States that they are trying to be as flexible as they can which is one of their strengths.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins says that he is happy to have bowled under the lights. He says that Glenn Maxwell bowled impressively taking 4 wickets. He mentions that Marsh and Warner look good at the top of the innings. On the injuries, he says that Ashton Agar is struggling with calf and Travis Head is out for a couple of weeks. He also says that everyone contributed in the win today

Time for presentation ceremony…

Marnus Labuschagne is in for a chat. He says that it was a game where the first overs were a good time to bat and that it was a good experience. He adds that even though they lost the series it was nice to have the big guys back and see the team gel.

Earlier in the game, after Pat Cummins called it right and opted to bat first, Australia were off to a rollicking start, to say the least. Mitchell Marsh led the way initially and found good support from David Warner who too began to flex his muscles as the innings progressed. A 78-run opening stand between these two batters helped Australia lay a solid foundation. The departure of Warner did not deter Marsh who continued his onslaught and was accompanied by Steven Smith who was at his usual best. Thanks to Marsh’s 96 and Smith’s 74, Australia found themselves in a position of strength where 400 was a possible total. After Smith’s dismissal, the visitors were not able to continue the momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Marnus was unperturbed by what was happening at the other end and ensured Australia had enough on the board before being dismissed in the penultimate over. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was taken to the cleaners in the first overs but fought back to finish with 3 wickets.

In pursuit of what was a daunting total, India needed to get off the blocks quickly to stay ahead in the game. Rohit Sharma was as effortless as ever and provided his side with a dream start in the run chase. His new opening partner Washington Sundar wasn’t as fluent but hung in there to offer good support to his skipper. Rohit then began to take the innings forward with Virat Kohli and the experienced duo ensured that the Indian innings did not lose steam. However, as the ball got softer, shot-making became tough nor were they able to rotate the strike. Rohit was dismissed on 81 while Kohli succumbed to the scoreboard pressure and departed shortly after reaching his fifty. It all went downhill for India post that as KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav perished in their quest to up the ante. With the required run rate climbing with each ball and not much batting depth, it eventually proved to be a bridge too far for India.

Despite falling 20-25 runs short of where they would have wanted to be, Australia had a massive total on the board. As has been the case in the first two ODIs, the pacers lacked the cutting edge with the new ball and were guilty of bowling too short which allowed Rohit Sharma in particular to get going. As he has so often done, Glenn Maxwell delivered the goods for Australia by breaking the opening stand. He bowled with exceptional control in the middle phase and helped Australia tighten the screws. Maxwell piled more misery on India with the wickets of Rohit and Kohli and never allowed India to come back into the game. The rest of the bowlers chipped in as well with the pacers taking pace off constantly to keep the batters guessing. Glenn Maxwell registered his career-best figures of 4 for 40 and turned the game in Australia’s way.

A comprehensive victory for Australia in the third and final ODI! They have emerged victorious in Rajkot with a convincing margin of 66 runs. By doing so, they have avoided the whitewash and this win will put them in good stead ahead of the ODI World Cup. Thanks to the dominant performances in the first two games, it is India who have clinched the series with a 2-1 scoreline.

India’s skipper Rohit Sharma says that these are much better conditions than Mohali. Adds that the temperature is decent and they are looking forward to this game. Mentions that taking some time off gave them time to stay mentally fit. Shares that he is happy with how the last two games went and today is another opportunity to see what they can do. Thinks that it will be slightly easier to bat under lights and they wanted to chase. Adds that they will look to make use of the two new balls. Informs that Virat Kohli and Kuldeep Yadav are back as well. Adds that Ravichandran Ashwin misses out and he is replaced by Washington Sundar. Ends by informing that Ishan Kishan has viral fever and he is out as well.

The skipper of Australia, Pat Cummins says that they will bat first because it looks like a good wicket. He adds that results haven’t gone their way but there were some good performances throughout. He says that Mitchell Marsh and himself come back in along with Tanveer Sangha who will be joined by Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc.

Australia (Playing XI) – David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Tanveer Sangha, Josh Hazlewood.

India (Playing XI) – Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

TOSS – The flip of the coin lands in the favour of Pat Cummins and Australia have opted to BAT first.

PITCH REPORT – Sanjay Manjrekar is near the deck. He says that it is a centre wicket and the boundaries are pretty even on all sides. Brad Haddin joins him and says there is a good covering of grass. Adds that the surface is hard and feels that the score will be in excess of 300. Reckons that it might be another tough day for the bowlers.

The Aussies on the other hand, have had a few bad matches in this format. They came into this series after a series loss against South Africa. They have also failed to win this series in the Indian conditions as they lost the first 2 games. This will worry them with the World Cup coming up which will be played on similar tracks. David Warner has been in good touch at the top of the innings but lacks the support needed from the other batters. Sean Abbott also played a good cameo towards the end in the last game but it was not enough to push Australia over the victory mark. Pat Cummins is expected to make a return to the playing 11 in this game along with Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc. This is the last ODI game both teams will play ahead of the World Cup and both of them will make sure to get the most out of it. This will surely be an exciting encounter to watch with some of the greats coming into the squads. Stay with us as live action will take center stage shortly. Sit tight as we bring you the toss and team news soon.

India has dominated the Aussies in the first two games of the series and currently leads it by 2-0. We will see the senior players back in the squad for this match. The young pacer, Mukesh Kumar has also been added to the squad recently and he will also hope to get some game time. Shreyas Iyer performed brilliantly in the last match scoring a fine century along with Gill. Suryakumar Yadav also has come back to his form in ODIs and shown that he can adapt to this format as well. It will be good to see the Indian squad back in action with the likes of the skipper, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli back in the squad as well. A victory in this series has already given the hosts, India, the upper hand and they will hope to whitewash Australia and end this series 3-0.

Hello and a very warm welcome folks. We arrive at Rajkot for the third and final ODI of the series played between India and Australia. This is a very important ODI series for both teams to try out their squads in these conditions where the World Cup will be played.

… MATCH DAY …

Right then, that’s all from this game. India have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and will eye a whitewash now. The third and final ODI of the series will take place on Wednesday, the 27th of September, at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The first ball will be bowled at 1.30 pm IST (8.00 am GMT), but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and take care!

Shreyas Iyer is the Player of the Match for his brilliant hundred. Says that it was a rollercoaster ride for the last few months but he is feeling good now and credits his friends and family for supporting him in such a tough phase. Adds that he watched the games from his home and just wanted to go out there to perform. Tells that he always believed in his own abilities and he is really happy that everything worked out in this game. Mentions that his plan initially was to play in the V and not complicate things as he was batting brilliantly in the nets, and he backed himself to put away the loose balls as well. Says that he is happy to bat in any spot, whatever the team needs. Further adds that Virat Kohli is one of the best in the game, and he can’t steal that number 3 position from him but there is a lot to learn. Ends by saying he wants to keep the momentum going and maintain the same rhythm.

India’s skipper KL Rahul says that when he saw the wicket in the morning, he did not think it would spin that much. Mentions that having quality spinners in the side does help. Adds that having 400 on the board also helped. Feels that selection is a headache for the coach and Rohit Sharma and whoever gets picked has a job to do. Shares that sitting out can be hard despite scoring runs. Reckons that when you travel every day, it is important to get used to lights. Adds that fielding is related to how fresh you are.

Steven Smith, the captain of Australia says that potentially they could have batted first looking at how the ball was turning later in the game. Praises Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer for their excellent hundreds and also credits KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav for their contributions with the bat. Tells that they like to chase but after the rain, the wicket got a bit sticky and started to spin and it was always going to be challenging chasing 400 but they were a good way off. Mentions that they have now lost a few games, in South Africa and now here and you don’t really want to be going to a big event like this. Says that there are a few things to sort out and once they get there, they know they will be a better side. Further adds that he doesn’t know if they will experiment again but hopes to come back stronger in the next game. Ends by saying that both teams are preparing for the World Cup and India have outplayed them in both games here.

Time for the presentation ceremony…

Earlier in the game, it was Australia’s stand-in skipper Steven Smith who called it right and inserted India into bat. Returning to the side, Josh Hazelwood drew first blood for Australia by getting rid of Ruturaj Gaikwad in his second over. Coming in at number 3, Shreyas Iyer came out all guns firing and was quick to put the pressure back on the Aussie bowlers. Shubman Gill continued his purple patch and got India off to a flying start with Iyer. Both batters notched up entertaining hundreds and, by doing so, took their side to a commanding position. After this 200-run stand was broken, Ishan Kishan played a quickfire cameo before KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav took the innings forward. It was Suryakumar who went into overdrive towards the back end of the innings and remained unbeaten on 72 to propel India close to 400. In what was an off day for their bowlers, Cameron Green ended with two wickets for Australia but was the most expensive bowler.

Having to chase a mammoth total, Australia were off to the worst possible start as they were two down with not much on the board. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne kept the scoreboard ticking by pouncing on the loose deliveries offered by the Indians. The game’s second rain interruption came at the most inopportune time for Australia, as the loss of two wickets meant that the revised target was 317 in 33 overs. With his ambidexterity, Warner went on to reach fifty, but the same approach led to his downfall. In what was a bizarre LBW dismissal, Warner failed to recognize that he had gotten a bottom edge and decided not to review. Who knows, had he reviewed, things might well have panned out differently for Australia. With a mountain to climb, the rest of the batters had to go for their shots as well and perished at regular intervals in doing so. At 140-8, it seemed to be all over for visitors but Sean Abbott and Josh Hazlewood decided to have some fun with a 77-run stand. Abbott’s swashbuckling fifty was one of the positives for Australia in what was a disappointing loss for them.

After an outstanding effort with the bat, India needed to back it up, and they certainly did that too in a dominating fashion. Playing in place of Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for this game, Prasidh Krishna wasted no time in making an impression. The lanky seamer dismissed Matthew Short on his second ball before nipping Steven Smith for a golden duck. The Indian seamers were unable to keep the pressure on as they bowled a bit too short and allowed the Aussie batters to free their arms. The rain break allowed the hosts to regroup and assess their plans, which they indeed did. Post-resumption, Ravichandran Ashwin was given the ball from one end, and with his guile and deception, he dismantled the Australian middle order. His spin partner, Ravindra Jadeja, got into the wicket-taking act and used the favourable conditions to his advantage to pile more misery on Australia. Towards the end, complacency crept in with a few lapses in the field which allowed the tail to wag. Mohammad Shami broke the annoying stand before Ravindra Jadeja castled Sean Abbott to complete the formalities.

India seal the series with another comprehensive victory! KL Rahul’s men trounce Australia with a convincing margin of 99 runs. This victory ensures that the Men in Blue will enter the ODI World Cup as the top-ranked ODI side. On the other hand, Australia have been outplayed with both bat and ball here in Indore, and this series loss has come as a dent in their preparations for the upcoming mega event.
