Indian cricket team’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir wants former international player Abhishek Nayar to become his assistant coach, according to a report. Nayar and Gambhir worked together during IPL 2024 as they played a big role in guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to the title. Gambhir was the mentor of the side while Nayar was the assistant coach in the franchise. Nayar, who played for Mumbai Indians in his career, also holds the position of KKR Academy director. The report claims that Gambhir wants Nayar to join him as part of the Indian cricket team support staff.

The report in Bengali newspaper Aajkal said that Gambhir already had a verbal agreement with Nayar during their time with KKR and it is expected that Nayar will follow after Gambhir appointment as Team India head coach.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday announced that former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the Indian men’s cricket team’s new head coach.

Jay Shah took to his official X account and announced Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s new head coach.

The BCCI secretary added that he has his full confidence in Gambhir and that he will be the ideal person to steer Indian cricket forward.

“It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward. His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey,” Shah wrote on X.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of Team India came to an end after the conclusion of the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024, where India beat South Africa by seven runs to win the prestigious trophy after 17 years.

Abhishek Nayar: The Unsung Hero Behind KKR’s IPL 2024 Triumph https://artifexnews.net/abhishek-nayar-the-unsung-hero-behind-kkrs-ipl-2024-triumph-5760769/ Tue, 28 May 2024 02:18:33 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/abhishek-nayar-the-unsung-hero-behind-kkrs-ipl-2024-triumph-5760769/ Read More “Abhishek Nayar: The Unsung Hero Behind KKR’s IPL 2024 Triumph” »

The limelight may be on Gautam Gambhir and Shah Rukh Khan as Kolkata Knight Riders win their third IPL title, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are being hailed, as expected. Mitchell Starc has come good on the big occasion. Chandrakant Pandit becomes the first man to win the IPL and the Ranji Trophy as a head coach. But as KKR celebrated on Sunday night, some players made sure that one unsung hero also received due credit. The man in question? Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

While being interviewed by Harsha Bhogle after KKR won the 2024 IPL Final, Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer spoke highly about the role played by Abhishek Nayar in orchestrating their success.

“All I can think of right now is the person who built this Indian core. The main guy behind this is Abhishek Nayar,” said Chakravarthy.

And what an Indian core it has been. Chakravarthy picked up 21 wickets. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora got 19 and 11 wickets, respectively. Venkatesh Iyer scored 370 runs. Teenage talent Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored fifty on debut. Ramandeep Singh was a revelation lower down the order, adding vital runs and impressing on the field.

Venkatesh Iyer, who scored a 26-ball 52 in the IPL Final, added to the praise. “Abhishek Nayar deserves all the credit in the world. Some of his contributions go unnoticed, I want to make sure it doesn’t,” he said. Iyer was retained by KKR before the previous mega auction, in favour of Shubman Gill, a symbol of the faith shown by Nayar.

Abhishek Nayar has also played a significant role in developing the young Indian core that KKR has banked on. Apart from being the assistant coach, he has also been the mentor and head coach of the KKR Academy. One such starlet he’s seen rise is 18-year-old Angkrish Raghuvanshi. His father Avneesh thanked Nayar on Instagram.

“Dear Abhishek Nayar sir. Your first words to us were “I want to make Angkrish a good human and then a cricketer”… seems like a plan on track,” he wrote.

While Gambhir and the rest of the star-studded KKR backroom gets richly-deserved credit, the players have made sure that even unsung heroes like Nayar get their flowers.

IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Nayar having an intense chat© Twitter

Ahead of a recent IPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata, an interaction between ex-MI captain Rohit Sharma and KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar went viral. The video was reportedly deleted by KKR after it went viral, thus further fanning the speculation. Though there was plenty of background noise in the viral video, it didn’t take long for social media users to decipher what exactly was spoken between Rohit and Nayar on the eve of the KKR vs MI clash at Eden Gardens.

Yn the video, Rohit can be heard telling Nayar about ‘change’. At the end of the video, the former Mumbai Indians skipper also said that “it’s his last”. Though the context of the conversation isn’t known, fans suggested that the two could’ve talked about the current situation at Mumbai Indians, especially Hardik Pandya‘s appointment as skipper.

Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai…Woh unke upar hai…Jo bhi hai woh mera ghar hai bhai, woh temple jo hai na maine banwaya hai(Everything is changing one by one… It’s on them… Whatever, but it’s my home brother, it’s the temple that I constructed).”

The last line that could be heard in the video was: “Bhai mera kya mera to ye last hai (brother, this is my last anyway)”.

Now Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore has opened up on the issue. “I didn’t even know about it, some storm in a teacup I think. They have been good friends since God knows how long. Somebody has done something there just to create some mischief. I spoke to both of them, they were talking about something else. Some people just have too much time on their hands. That’s all I can say,” said Venky Mysore to RevSportz.

As the Mumbai Indians prepare to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash on Saturday, an intriguing video surfaced on social media where Rohit Sharma could be seen being involved in an intense chat with KKR’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Though there was plenty of background noise, it didn’t take long for fans to find out what exactly was spoken between Rohit and Nayar on the eve of the KKR vs MI clash at Eden Gardens.

In the video, Rohit and Nayar could be heard talking about ‘things changing’.

A few days ago, a report emerged suggesting that multiple senior players in the Mumbai Indians team aren’t happy with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. In fact, the senior stars also reportedly said that Hardik’s style of captaincy doesn’t create the required ‘buzz’ in the MI dressing room.

The Mumbai Indians management announced Hardik as the franchise’s skipper ahead of the start of the new season, hoping the India all-rounder would lead them to success just the way he did with the Gujarat Titans over the last couple of seasons. However, little has gone MI’s way since the campaign started.

Mumbai Indians became the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs race this campaign, and are placed 9th in the 10-team points table at present. With just 4 wins from 12 matches so far, MI have barely managed to click as a unit, with Hardik’s decision-making as a skipper also being questioned multiple times.
