Former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan questioned the run-out dismissal of Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Dhruv Jurel during the IPL 2024 Eliminator against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Wednesday. The incident happened on the first ball of the 14th over when Cameron Green inflicted the run out after a bullet throw by Virat Kohli from deep midwicket. It was a crucial moment in the game as Jurel’s dismissal tilted the game in favour of RCB momentarily. The third umpire took his time to make a decision before finally giving Jurel his marching orders.

While Kohli and Green were praised by the fans and commentators, McClenaghan questioned the decision made by the third umpire, questioning if the laws of the game have changed.

“Always thought you had to have the ball held in your hand to cause a runout… have the rules changed?,” McClenaghan wrote in a post on X.

McClenaghan backed his claim by sharing a screenshot of the rule book.

“The wicket is broken fairly if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground by a fielder with his hand or arm, providing that the ball is held in the hand or hands so used, or in the hand of the arm so used,” the rule stated.

Jurel’s dismissal, however, turned out to be a minor hiccup in RR’s chase as Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell played handy cameos to steer them home.

The win saw RR helped them to reach the Qualifier 2 and also knock RCB out of the tournament.

RR will take on SRH on Friday for a place in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders.

their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs qualification hopes. Up against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 match on Sunday, RCB didn’t disappoint and secured a thumping victory. But, the win might not have been possible had RCB failed to dismiss DC’s in-form star Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young Australian batter became victim of an unlucky run-out that sent the entire RCB team into jubilation, with none other than Virat Kohli leading the celebrations of the prized wicket.

Cameron Green, on his own bowling, touched a straight drive from Shai Hope and the ball hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Fraser-McGurk had only started to advance towards the striker’s end when the ball shattered the stumps, forcing him to head back to the pavilion.

Kohli, ecstatic to get the big fish, ran like a child, and even seemed to have given the DC star a sendoff. Here’s the video:

Virat knew the value of the Aussie star’s wicket and his celebration perfectly summed that up. The wicket proved to be a turning point in the fortunes for RCB, who went on to restrict DC for just 140 runs.

RCB pace bowler Yash Dayal attributed the renaissance of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the second half of the IPL to them “switching on the attacking mode.” After six consecutive defeats, Royal Challengers won five matches on the bounce to remain in contention for a playoff berth.

In the last game, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs here on Sunday to leap to fifth spot on the table with 12 points from 13 matches.

“Our performances have markedly improved in the last few matches. I think we have switched on that attacking mode in the last few matches. It has been a big positive for us,” said Dayal, who took three for 20 against DC, during the post-match press meet.

The left-arm quick said even while RCB were going through a losing streak, the dressing room remained a thickly-knit unit.

“When you lose matches continuously, like it happened with us, morale will come down a bit. But we took it in our stride and bounced back well.

“But even when we were losing, fingers were not pointed at anyone. We have remained positive throughout the season,” he added.

Cameron Green lauded star batter Virat Kohli for playing a “vintage” innings to keep Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the race to the IPL playoffs. Kohli made full use of the three reprieves, including one on zero, to make a 47-ball 92 that set the tone for their 60-run win over Punjab Kings in a must-win match in Dharamsala on Thursday. “He played the vintage Virat that we all know. It was a beautiful watch from the other end. That’s the beauty of having Virat in your team, as opposition you can’t give him that many chances,” said Green in the post-match press meet.

The Australian all-rounder, who helped himself to a 27-ball 46, said Kohli was trying to be aggressive and the drops did not affect him.

“He’s always going to make you hurt, especially if you drop him three or four times. Early in his innings, he was trying to be really aggressive. I think he looked like after a couple of dropped catches, he didn’t have much to lose,” added Green.

The Bengaluru side still need to win their remaining two matches against Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings at home to remain in the mix for playoffs.

Green said the team has done well to win four matches on the bounce after a string of defeats.

“Yeah, I think what we’ve done really well is just look at the next game. I think obviously at the start of the tournament you can always look further at what’s coming up, where are we on the table.

“But I think that’s the beauty of where we were at (now), we kind of were pushed into a corner and all we could really do was focus on the next game,” he added.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin blamed the dropped catches for his side’s defeat.

The Kings let-off Kohli and Green more than once and they bruised them with quickfire knocks as RCB posted a tall 241 for seven.

In reply, PBKS could only manage 181 before getting bundled out.

“100 percent we lost the match because of dropped catches. If we look through the game, we dropped two guys on a duck, and both of them scored big runs. That was where the game was lost.

“There was not too much difference in the batting and bowling of both teams. The catches we put down cost us the game,” said Haddin.

KL Rahul continued his brilliant run of form as he scored another half-century during the second ODI match between India and Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday. The explosive batter ended up scoring 52 off just 38 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. While all of his shots were more or less extremely attractive, a six off the bowling of Cameron Green went deep into the stands and landed on the stadium’s roof. During the 35th over of the match, Rahul capitalised on a length delivery from Green and heaved it over deep mid-wicket for a six so massive that it left both fans and commentators stunned.

Shubman Gill showed his insatiable hunger for runs with fifth hundred of the year while Shreyas Iyer hit a timely ton under pressure to set up a series sealing 99-run win for India.

Gill (104 off 97 balls) and Iyer (105 off 90 balls) shared a stroke-filled 200-run stand off 164 balls before Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out off 37 balls) unleashed carnage to fire India to 399 for five, the hosts’ highest total against Australia in ODIs.

Skipper K L Rahul chipped in with 52 off 38 balls.

Rain stopped play for the second time in the game when Australia were 56 for two in nine overs. With the revised target of 317 in 33 overs, they fell further behind in the game and ended with 217 all out in 28.2 overs.

David Warner (53 off 39), who batted right-handed against R Ashwin (3/41), and Sean Abbott (54 off 36), had a good hit in the middle.

The series win without their five main players in the squad was a big boost for India ahead of the World Cup at home.

The final game, in which a full strength India squad is expected to play, will take place in Rajkot on Wednesday.

Suryakumar Yadav played an explosive knock that included six consecutive sixes off the bowling of Cameron Green during the second ODI clash between India and Australia on Sunday. Suryakumar looked in brilliant touch and in the 43rd over, he decided to attack his Mumbai Indians teammate’s bowling. The first ball went sailing over the deep backward square leg boundary thanks to a trademark SKY shot and he followed it up with a similar attempt that sent the ball over the fine-leg boundary. Green was quick to course-correct but his outside the off stump line resulted in Suryakumar heaving the ball over deep extra cover for another six. Green looked lost and he went for a full-length delivery but the result was the same as it flew over the deep mid-wicket fielder for the fourth six of the over.

Shubman Gill showed his insatiable hunger for runs with his fifth hundred of the year while Shreyas Iyer hit a timely ton under pressure to set up a series-sealing 99-run win for India.
