One of the greatest players of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo, hit a historic milestone on social media, becoming the first individual ever to hit a cumulative figure of 1 billion followers. Ronaldo‘s popularity across social media platforms has grown further thanks to his newly launched Instagram channel. On Thursday, the 39-year-old, who plays club football in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, announced that he has reached 1 billion followers across his social media accounts, a number not matched by any individual in history. Ronaldo’s YouTube account, the latest addition to his social media presence, breached the 50 million mark inside one week, shattering multiple records en route.

On Instagram, Ronaldo has more than 639 million followers, which holds the biggest chunk of his 1 billion followers on social media platforms. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid man also has 170.5 million followers on Facebook and 113 million on X.

The Portuguese football icon shared an emotional note on social media as he breached the 1 billion mark on the internet.

“We’ve made history – 1 BILLION followers! This is more than just a number – it’s a testament to our shared passion, drive, and love for the game and beyond.

From the streets of Madeira to the biggest stages in the world, I’ve always played for my family and for you, and now 1 billion of us stand together. You’ve been with me every step of the way, through all the highs and the lows. This journey is our journey, and together, we’ve shown that there are no limits to what we can achieve.

Thank you for believing in me, for your support, and for being part of my life. The best is yet to come, and we’ll keep pushing, winning, and making history together,” Ronaldo wrote on social media.

A handful of followers also exist on smaller followings on Chinese platforms Weibo and Kuaishou.

Erik Ten Hag Hits Back At Cristiano Ronaldo Criticism Over Manchester United Ambition https://artifexnews.net/erik-ten-hag-hits-back-at-cristiano-ronaldo-criticism-over-manchester-united-ambition-6551923/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 17:18:33 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/erik-ten-hag-hits-back-at-cristiano-ronaldo-criticism-over-manchester-united-ambition-6551923/ Read More “Erik Ten Hag Hits Back At Cristiano Ronaldo Criticism Over Manchester United Ambition” »

]]>

Erik ten Hag on Thursday brushed aside Cristiano Ronaldo‘s criticism about his ambition at struggling Manchester United, saying the Portugal star is “far from Manchester”. Ronaldo‘s second spell at United ended in a high-profile break-up in November 2022 after he made stinging comments about his Dutch boss. The 39-year-old Al-Nassr player again hit out at Ten Hag this week, saying his attitude was too negative for a club of the stature of United.

Ronaldo told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast: “Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the (Premier) League or Champions League.

“You have to be, to mentally say, ‘Listen, maybe we don’t have that potential but I cannot say that. We’re going to try.’ You have to try.”

He also said the club need to “rebuild everything” and that it “will be difficult” for them to challenge for the biggest trophies. Ferdinand was a teammate of Ronaldo’s during his trophy-laden first spell at United, from 2003 to 2009.

Ten Hag has said he is “quite confident” of claiming more silverware this campaign after lifting the League Cup and FA Cup over the past two seasons.

But he said in July his team are a “long way away” from being ready to win the Premier League, with United not crowned champions of England since Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge in 2013.

When Ronaldo’s comments about his mentality were put to him at a Thursday press conference, Ten Hag said: “He said that Manchester United can’t win the Premier League. No, he said this if you read the article very well.

“So, he’s far away in Saudi, far from Manchester. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. It’s OK.”

Ronaldo’s interview came after an international break that immediately followed United’s humiliating 3-0 loss at home to bitter rivals Liverpool. But Ten Hag said he did not let it affect him.

“It doesn’t impact me,” he insisted. “I know in the process where we are, what we have to do, where we are going. I have said before we are still in a transition period. We have to integrate a lot of young players also in the team.

“We are still dealing with injuries, we have to bring the injuries back in the team. Before anyone thinks about excuses, no, we have to win every game.

“I know that, the team knows this and it doesn’t matter who is available. We will focus on every game and have in every game the mindset that we have to win.”

United upset Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May but they endured their worst Premier League campaign last term, finishing eighth.

The 20-time English champions, who travel to Southampton on Saturday, have lost two of their opening three league matches this season. Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund remain sidelined but new signing Manuel Ugarte could make his debut after playing for Uruguay in midweek.

Nations League: Cristiano Ronaldo Strikes Late To Seal Portugal Win Over Scotland https://artifexnews.net/nations-league-cristiano-ronaldo-strikes-late-to-seal-portugal-win-over-scotland-6522284/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 02:50:49 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/nations-league-cristiano-ronaldo-strikes-late-to-seal-portugal-win-over-scotland-6522284/ Read More “Nations League: Cristiano Ronaldo Strikes Late To Seal Portugal Win Over Scotland” »

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s late strike sealed Portugal’s 2-1 win over Scotland as the 901st goal of the striker’s extraordinary career completed a stirring fightback in Sunday’s Nations League clash. Ronaldo had reached 900 career goals with his 131st international strike in Thursday’s victory over Croatia. The 39-year-old showed no signs of being sated by that incredible milestone as he came off the bench to lift Portugal to their second successive win in Nations League Group A1. The Estadio da Luz in Lisbon rose in unison to chant the relentless Al-Nassr forward’s name after he struck with two minutes to play.

On his 30th birthday, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes fired Portugal’s second half equaliser after his former Old Trafford team-mate Scott McTominay gave Scotland a surprise early lead.

For Portugal boss Roberto Martinez, victory over Scotland could mean some awkward silences at his next family gathering.

Martinez met his wife Beth while playing for Scottish club Motherwell in 2001 and joked before the match he would be delighted to upset his father-in-law by beating Scotland.

He did exactly that, leaving Scotland still waiting for their first win over Portugal.

Beaten 3-2 by Poland at Hampden Park on Thursday, Scotland have won just once in 14 matches, a barren sequence that included their lacklustre failure to make it out of the group stage at Euro 2024.

Steve Clarke’s men have lost six of their nine matches in 2024, with their only victory coming in a friendly against Gibraltar in June.

“When you bring quality players from the bench like Roberto can do you always know there’s a risk,” Clarke said.

“I’m really disappointed for my players because I think they deserved to get something from the game.

“But with the amount of balls that go into the box, you know one of them can go in the back of the net and that’s what happened to us.”

Ronaldo late show

Scotland took a shock lead in the seventh minute when Kenny McLean’s superb cross picked out McTominay, who made a perfectly-timed run to plant his stooping header past Diogo Costa from six yards.

McTominay, who recently moved from United to Napoli, has 10 goals in his last 12 competitive appearances for Scotland.

Rafael Leao threatened an immediate equaliser with a driving run but his shot rippled into the side-netting.

Leao went even closer as he cut in from the left flank for a fierce drive that Angus Gunn pushed away at full stretch.

Antonio Silva wasted a chance created by Leao as he headed over from the AC Milan forward’s dinked cross.

As the Portugal pressure mounted, Gunn made a fine save after Diogo Jota connected with Fernandes’s incisive pass.

It was no surprise to see Ronaldo sent on for the second half and Portugal were immediately improved by his presence.

Taking aim from long-range in the 53rd minute, Fernandes’s 25-yard blast should have been routine for Gunn but his weak attempted save allowed the ball to squirm into the net.

Ronaldo’s audacious backheel gave Joao Felix a sight of goal, only for Gunn to make amends for his earlier error with an excellent stop.

Gunn saved again from Felix’s diving header before Ronaldo turned the rebound against the post.

In the next attack, Ronaldo’s glancing header hit the post and was clawed off the line by Gunn before Felix could convert.

Portugal’s late surge finally produced the winner in the 88th minute.

Nuno Mendes whipped a cross into the six-yard box, where Ronaldo was lurking to deliver the knockout blow with a typically predatory tap-in.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the top-scoring player in professional football history© AFP

Not part of the Ballon d’Or shortlist, no problem as Cristiano Ronaldo goes about his business as usual. The Portuguese superstar scored his record-extending 900th career goal as his team defeated Croatia 2-1 in the first game of the UEFA Nations League on Thursday. Ronaldo inched closer to the milestone goal when he scored a glorious free-kick for his club Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia a few days ago. Last night, the 39-year-old reached the big milestone and celebrated as if he scored the first goal of his career.

Ronaldo, who plays his club football in Saudi Arabia, turned in a Nuno Mendes cross in the 34th minute of the match at the Estadio da Luz to script history in professional football.

He appeared emotional as he celebrated the goal, his 131st strike in a Portugal shirt. Half of his goals were scored for Real Madrid, with the remainder spread across his spells at Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and current club Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo also took to social media and reacted to the history 900th goal milestone, while also giving a subtle hint that he isn’t thinking about hanging up his boots anytime soon.

Diogo Dalot’s goal had put Portugal in front early on before Ronaldo netted, with a Dalot own-goal reducing the deficit before the break.

The teams are in Group A1 of the latest edition of the Nations League along with Poland and Scotland.

Portugal host Scotland in Lisbon on Sunday. Ronaldo, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, is already the top-scoring player in professional football history. Following him in the second spot is his arch-rival Lionel Messi, with 838 recorded goals in professional football.

The year was 2004 and AC Milan icon Andriy Shevchenko claimed his first and only Ballon d’Or award as the then 28-year-old became Pavel Nedved’s successor after an unforgettable 2003-2004 season. Organised by France Football since 1956, the star-studded nominee list of the Ballon d’Or featured a young Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kaka, Luis Figo, David Beckham and Paolo Maldini. Manchester United’s prodigal son bagged the 12th spot in his Ballon d’Or debut. Ronaldo then went on to stage an epic rivalry with Lionel Messi as the two behemoths turned the Ballon d’Or race into a near-two-way contest at their careers’ peak.

Ballon d’Or arch-rivals Messi and Ronaldo lifted the Golden Ball a combined 13 times from the 2008 edition. Securing his first nomination in 2006, Messi sealed his first Ballon d’Or title in 2009 to kickstart his four-year streak of winning the Golden Ball. The record-time winner is also the reigning Ballon d’Or champion. Messi missed the cut in 2022 but the Argentine stalwart masterminded La Albiceleste’s third FIFA World Cup triumph in the same year to stake claim on the Ballon d’Or trophy in 2023. A year later, neither Messi nor Ronaldo have earned the Golden Ball call-up for the first time since 2003.

Changing of the guards is imminent in Paris as France Football and UEFA will crown the successor of Messi at the 2024 Ballon d’Or awards. Created by France Football magazine, UEFA and Groupe Amaury will co-organise the renowned Ballon d’Or 2024 on 28 October at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. First awarded to England great Stanley Matthews in 1956, legends of the beautiful game including Eusebio, Bobby Charlton, George Best, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane have all won lifted the famous trophy in the past. Who is next?

Mbappe vs Haaland: No podium finish for world-class strikers

Though Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe is featured in the top 30 list, the new galactico of Los Blancos might finish behind Man City forward Haaland. Smashing records at Etihad, Haaland finished the 2023-2024 season with a Premier League title and consecutive Golden Boot. Netting 38 goals last season, the goal machine is the quickest player in the Premier League’s history to 50 goals. Placed 18th in the list of all-time goal-getters in the history of the Champions League, Haaland is the youngest to smash 40 goals in the celebrated tournament. However, a fruitful campaign in top-flight leagues doesn’t guarantee a Golden Ball this year. Haaland failed to fire for Man City against Real Madrid while French forward Mbappe guided Paris Saint Germain (PSG) to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Free-scoring Mbappe dumped Barcelona out of the Champions League but the France captain struggled to engineer PSG’s comeback against last season’s Champions League runners-up Dortmund in the semi-finals. At the UEFA Euro, Mbappe’s France side was eliminated by eventual champions Spain in the semi-finals.

Why is Vinicius leading the Ballon d’Or race?

Vinicius had a false start in his Ballon d’Or bid last season. The Brazilian superstar was missing in action when Carlo Ancelotti-coached Madrid were desperate to crown Karim Benzema‘s heir at the Bernabeu. Regaining top form in the same injury-marred season, Real Madrid’s No.7 scored a hat-trick against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Vinicius was also the ‘Real deal’ at the Champions League. The Los Blancos winger was instrumental in the semi-final win over Bayern Munich. Fresh from powering Real Madrid to a record-extending La Liga title, on-song Vinicius scored the winner against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final. In his comeback season, Vinicius netted 26 times and chipped in with 12 assists. Adding crucial titles to his Real Madrid cabinet, Vinicius made a quiet exit from the international stage. The Real Madrid superstar earned a brace against Paraguay in the Copa America group stage. Suspended from the quarter-finals against Uruguay, Vinicius was a mere spectator as the Golden Ball candidate saw Selecao bow out of the competition on penalties.

Please, make way for Rodri

Despite being the best holding midfielder in the world, why cerebral Spaniard Rodri is still not heavily tipped to win the Golden Ball this year? A serious contender for the prestigious award last year, Rodri won the treble with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. However, Rodri was upstaged by Erling Haaland with his 52-goal contribution in 53 games. The former Borussia Dortmund forward was second only to Messi as the FIFA World Cup 2022 winner took home his record-eighth Ballon d’Or title in 2023.

Rodri has made it to the nominee list on the back of an impressive unbeaten run with Man City. Did you know? Guardiola’s men lost all of their three matches in the Premier League last season with Rodri being suspended. The Rodri-starrer Man City side last lost a Premier League game in February 2023. The Spanish international didn’t concede a single defeat at the UEFA Champions League last season. Man City were outclassed by eventual champions Real Madrid on penalties in the quarter-finals after two thrilling draws. Labelled as the ‘perfect computer’ by Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, Rodri ended a trophy-laden season with La Roja defeating England in the UEFA Euro 2024 final. “Please, give him the Ballon d’Or now!” – what Guardiola said about Rodri, who was also named the Player of the Tournament at the Euros.

Golden Ball for ‘golden boy’ Bellingham

Just like Mbappe, playmaker Jude Bellingham was on target for Real Madrid on his debut. Assisting Real Madrid’s goal-getters Rodrygo and Vinicius throughout the season, Bellingham donned the famous No.5 jersey and boy did he do justice to Zidane’s old shirt which came with a whopping £100 million ($131m) price tag at the Santiago Bernabeu. Coining Madrid’s sucker punch against Dortmund in the Champions League final, the Englishman also propelled Los Blancos to Clasico wins over FC Barcelona in the La Liga last season. A central midfielder with his shooting boots on across competitions, Bellingham contributed 27 goals for Madrid and England. With Vinicius missing a major chunk of the 2023-2024 season through injury, Bellingham spearheaded the title bid for Los Blancos. Clutch for club and country, Bellingham produced 17 assists and headlined the UEFA Euro final. Sure a silver medal at Euros after a near-perfect season can’t cost Jude a Golden Ball?

In what is the first venture into the industry by a prominent footballer, former Brazil international winger Douglas Costa has put up his own account on the website ‘OnlyFans’. Costa, 33, announced his decision to join the website primarily used by adult content creators just days after joining Australian A-League club Sydney FC. Costa cited the platform’s potential for global reach in his new decision. Once a serial league winner with European giants like Bayern Munich and Juventus, Costa was teammates with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo for two seasons at the latter.

“As an OnlyFans creator, I will create exclusive content for my fans that they won’t be able to see on any other social media, and it will make a great difference,” said Costa through a press release sent to Australian news organisation The Sydney Morning Herald.

“I decided to join OnlyFans because I believe in the company’s credibility and potential for global reach,” he added.

Days after his former teammate Ronaldo shattered records on YouTube, gaining over 50 million subscribers in three days, Costa is trying his luck in another social media arena.

In fact, Ronaldo has been followed to YouTube by modern football stars like Jude Bellingham as well.

“The segment in which OnlyFans seeks to have athletes as brand ambassadors greatly impacts the market, and I am more than happy to be part of it, especially as one of the pioneers in the soccer segment,” he said.

“I hope this partnership will be lasting and I can make my fans happy with my content,” he stated.

In his prime, Costa was a dazzling winger who won three Bundesliga titles for Bayern Munich and three Serie A titles for Juventus. He also boasts 31 international caps for Brazil, for whom he has scored three goals. He was a part of his nation’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo has kept his place in the Portugal squad for next month’s UEFA Nations games against Croatia and Scotland despite an ineffective display at Euro 2024. The 39-year-old failed to score as he appeared at a record sixth European Championship, with Portugal exiting in the quarter-finals, but he retains the backing of coach Roberto Martinez. “When I quit the national team, I won’t tell anyone in advance… At the moment what I want is to be able to help the Selecao,” Ronaldo said in an interview with Portuguese TV this week.

Ronaldo has started the new season with four goals in as many games for Saudi side Al-Nassr and is likely to continue to lead the Portugal attack with Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos sidelined by an ankle injury.

While veteran defender Pepe announced his retirement from football at the age of 41 earlier this month, Martinez is looking to the future with Friday’s call-up of 17-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger Geovany Quenda.

Chelsea left-back Renato Veiga and Lille defender Tiago Santos are other new faces in the squad for the games against Croatia and Scotland on September 5 and 8 in Lisbon.

Defenders: Ruben Dias (Manchester City/ENG), Antonio Silva (Benfica), Renato Veiga (Chelsea/ENG), Goncalo Inacio (Sporting Lisbon), Tiago Santos (Lille/FRA), Diogo Dalot (Manchester United/ENG), Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain/FRA), Nelson Semedo (Wolves/ENG)

Midfielders: Joao Palhinha (Fulham/ENG), Joao Neves (Paris Saint-Germain/FRA), Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain/FRA), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United/ENG), Bernardo Silva (Manchester City/ENG), Ruben Neves (Al-Hilal/KSA)

It isn’t often that one sees Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the finest footballers of all time, score free-kick goals. More often than not, Ronaldo‘s attempts are found missing the target but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday. As Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr took on Al-Feiha in a Saudi Pro League match, the Portuguese forward brought his A-game to the fore. Though scoring goals isn’t something that Ronaldo has to struggle with, but his consistency in putting the ball into the back of the net from dead-ball situations had dried over the last few years. But, against Al-Feiha, Ronaldo found his mojo back.

The free-kick goal also marked Ronaldo’s 899th career goal, leaving him just one goal shy of the historic 900-mark. Ronaldo already has 130 goals for his country at the international stage, putting him at the absolute top of the standings.

Ronaldo’s approach towards the free-kick goal was also intriguing. The 39-year-old usually takes a few steps back and tries to hit the ball with power. However, against goalkeeper Abdulraouf Al-Duqayl stunned, he opted for a more measured approach. This time, it was more about beating the goalkeeper by sheer placement and precision. Ronaldo executed that to perfection, scoring his 64th career goal through a free-kick.

This was also Ronaldo’s 53rd free-kick goal in club football, putting him just one goal shy of arch-rival Lionel Messi‘s tally. When it comes to the national teams, both Messi and Ronaldo have scored on 11 occasions each. Here’s the goal from another angle:

In a recent interview, Ronaldo had spoken about the 1000-goal milestone that he intends to reach in his career. Already sitting on 899 goals, however, Ronaldo would need his body to help him quite a lot if he is to reach the historic landmark.

“It’s going to be pretty tough, but it’s about seeing how I am mentally, my motivation. If, physically, my legs treat me as well as I treat them? We’ll see, they are small stages. Until I get to 1,000, first I have to get to 900. I think I’ll get there,” Ronaldo had said about the record.

“If you look at my career for the last 20 years, my level is high. If you are top for 20 years, it’s unbelievable. I do that and I continue to do that. For me, it’s a big achievement,” he had said.

Courtesy of Ronaldo 899th career goal, Al-Nassr secured a 4-1 win against Al-Feiha.

Cristiano Ronaldo nearing 1 billion social media followers© Instagram

One of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo has broken many records on social media ever since he announced the launch of his YouTube channel ‘UR Cristiano’. Ronaldo quickly became the fastest celebrity on YouTube to go past 1 million, 10 million and 20 million followers. The records continue to tumble as the Portuguese footballer nears 50 million mark on the video platform. However, what’s mind-boggling is the fact that Ronaldo’s YouTube channel has put him high up in the race to become the first person to breach 1 billion mark across social media platforms.

Ronaldo, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker, enjoys a great fan base on other social media platforms like Twitter (112.7m), Facebook (170m), and Instagram (637m). His overall followers on social media are about to reach an amazing one billion, which is incredible for an athlete. With 45 million followers on YouTube already, Ronaldo’s overall count stands at 964 million.

Till date, no celebrity in the world has 1 billion followers while combining his or her social media following. Considering the way Ronaldo’s YouTube account is growing, it’s only a matter of days before the 39-year-old breaches that mark.

Ronaldo is already among the richest sportspersons in the world, enjoying a stunning pay from his social media presence too. His YouTube account has further added to his wealth. According to a report in the Spanish publication Marca, Ronaldo had already made around US Dollars 100 million within the first 72 hours of launching his YouTube account.

At present, YouTube pays is around $6 per every 1,000 views. Since launching his YouTube account, Ronaldo has posted 20 videos (including shorts) which have earned him about 200 million views. As per the current YouTube metric, a person could make between $1,200 and $6,000 per one million views.

Cristiano Ronaldo backed to make Man Utd return© X (Twitter)

A defeat in the Saudi Super Cup final to arch-rivals Al-Hilal meant that Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo had to settle for a runners-up spot in the competition. Ronaldo, the man with a champion’s perspective, wasn’t happy taking the silver medal, and now has been backed to make a sensational return to Manchester United, the club where he started his journey to superstardom. Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate Luis Saha has urged the Portuguese striker to return to Old Trafford, even as a manager or a coach.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day, that could be as a coach or even a manager. His second spell didn’t end how everyone had hoped and you can see why that frustrated him, he didn’t see the same formula and didn’t see the passion from young players that he had been used to seeing,” Saha told TVSporten.

Ronaldo, who first joined Manchester United from Sporting CP in 2003, left for Real Madrid in 2009 before making a return in 2021. However, his second stint at the club didn’t work out well, forcing him to leave the club in 2022 and join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr where he is playing at present.

While Ronaldo has exemplary attitude and experience required to become a manager, Saha has urged him to change the way he communicates a little.

“Now he will know that he needs to find a new way to communicate when he becomes a coach, which maybe isn’t as harsh or direct as it was when he was at the club. He will work out how to be successful and use all his knowledge to do that, we’ve seen Roy Keane go into management and have success.
