Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, whose ‘Jawan‘ is running to packed theatres, today gave a shout out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “success of India’s G20 Presidency”.

“Congratulations to Hon. PM @narendramodi ji for the success of India’s G20 Presidency and for fostering unity between nations for a better future for the people of the world,” the superstar posted on X.

The G20’s adoption of New Delhi Declaration is being seen as a huge win for India against the backdrop of the challenges in reaching consensus due to the Ukraine conflict and differences over tackling climate change.

“It has brought in a sense of honour and pride into the hearts of every Indian. Sir, under your leadership, we will prosper not in isolation but in Oneness. One Earth, One Family, One Future…,” he added further.

No footnote or Chair’s summary and a 100 per cent consensus on the Delhi G20 Declaration underlines “India’s ability to bring countries together”, French diplomatic sources told NDTV on Saturday, lavishing praise on New Delhi’s negotiation abilities.

“India has assumed a kind of power and an ability to bring countries together. Not many countries are in a position to negotiate as India has done, i.e. to take on board comments from everyone, and work out a compromise proposal. This is something important,” a French diplomatic source told NDTV.

China and Russia, whose heads of state skipped the Summit, were also in agreement with the Delhi declaration.

The African Union was inducted as the new permanent member of G20, pushing forward a new world order and offering developing nations a greater say in global decision-making.

The G20 consensus document is a testimony to India’s leadership on the global stage, he said.

New Delhi:

While we had consensus on the most important issues facing mankind today — sustainable development, growth, reform of multilateral institutions, women-led development — the geopolitical issue of the Ukraine war threw a spanner in the works as the global ideological divide cuts across the G20, the Delhi Summit’s Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, explaining how India handled its year of presidency.

Speaking to NDTV, Mr Shringla said India is well-placed to tackle the issue as in addition to being a regular invitee to the G7 (an informal bloc of industrialised democracies – the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom) and a member of the Quad (a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States), we are also members of the BRICS (a group of major emerging economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (a Eurasian political, economic, international security, and defence organisation established by China and Russia).

The fact that we got a consensus document with all partner countries agreeing to a formulation that suits their requirements is testimony to the importance of the G20 process, the need for a grouping like G20 to address global issues, and it’s also a testimony to India’s leadership on the global stage, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own stature in that regard, Mr Shringla further said.

The geopolitical section of the Delhi declaration have a distinct imprint of India’s position on the issue — reference to the UN charter, international sovereignty and territorial integrity, looking at such issues through diplomacy and dialogue, and the position that today’s era is not an era of war — the G20 coordinator said.

New Delhi:
World leaders who have gathered in New Delhi for the G20 Summit will continue discussions for a second day after making several big announcements to fix the “global trust deficit”, climate change, and economic issues.

Here are 10 points about this big story:

  1. The big takeaways on day 1 of the Summit were a call to end the “global trust deficit”, the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance, and the launch of new connectivity networks between the US, India, Saudi Arabia, and Gulf states.

  2. The G20 members unanimously adopted the Delhi Declaration, which called on nations to uphold territorial integrity and international humanitarian law to safeguard peace and stability.

  3. “We call on all states to uphold the principles of international law including territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability,” the declaration said.

  4. China and Russia, whose heads of state skipped the Summit, were also in agreement with the Delhi declaration.

  5. But while the declaration called on all states to not use force to grab territory, it avoided condemning Russia for the war in Ukraine. Ukraine’s foreign ministry said the declaration was “nothing to be proud of”, adding that a Ukrainian presence would have given participants a better understanding of the situation.

  6. The bloc also said that they will aim to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030 and expedite efforts to phase down coal power in line with national circumstances but did not commit to a phase-out of all polluting fossil fuels, including oil and gas.

  7. The bloc, which represents 85 per cent of the world’s GDP and contributes 80 per cent of emissions, however, said it will uphold its 2009 promise made in Pittsburgh to eliminate and rationalise inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.

  8. The African Union was inducted as the new permanent member of G20, pushing forward a new world order and offering developing nations a greater say in global decision-making.

  9. Ahead of the sessions today, the delegates will visit and pay homage at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial Rajghat in Delhi.

  10. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant will address the media at 2 pm today, after the conclusion of all scheduled discussions.

The declaration also spoke of providing targeted support for the “poorest and the most vulnerable”.

New Delhi:

The G20 countries on Saturday committed to expediting efforts to phase down unabated coal power in line with national circumstances and upholding their 2009 promise made in Pittsburgh to eliminate and rationalise inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.

According to the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, the grouping of major economies acknowledged the importance of hastening the development, deployment, and dissemination of technologies to transition to low-emission energy systems, particularly by rapidly expanding the deployment of clean power generation.

“We will increase our efforts to implement the commitment made in 2009 in Pittsburgh to phase-out and rationalise, over the medium term, inefficient fossil fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption and commit to achieve this objective, while providing targeted support for the poorest and the most vulnerable,” the G20 Declaration read.

Another point in the declaration stated, “We recognise the importance to accelerate the development, deployment and dissemination of technologies, and the adoption of policies, to transition towards low-emission energy systems, including by rapidly scaling up the deployment of clean power generation, including renewable energy, as well as energy efficiency measures, including accelerating efforts towards phase down of unabated coal power, in line with national circumstances and recognizing the need for support towards just transitions.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the adoption of the Declaration at the meeting of G20 leaders here on Saturday.

S Jaishankar On Russia References In ‘Delhi Declaration’ https://artifexnews.net/bali-was-bali-this-is-delhi-s-jaishankar-on-russia-references-in-declaration-4375168rand29/ Sat, 09 Sep 2023 13:47:11 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/bali-was-bali-this-is-delhi-s-jaishankar-on-russia-references-in-declaration-4375168rand29/ Read More “S Jaishankar On Russia References In ‘Delhi Declaration’” »

Mr Jaishankar said China was “very supportive of the outcomes” of the New Delhi Declaration.

New Delhi:

Achieving a consensus on the New Delhi Declaration in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war and “the strong views about it” required considerable time in the last few days, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday.

Asked about China’s take on the declaration, which is being seen as a major diplomatic victory for India, Mr Jaishankar said that it was “very supportive of the outcomes”.

The minister’s statement assumes importance given the speculation in various quarters that Russia and China were unlikely to sign the declaration. Days before the summit began, a senior US official had also hinted at this and said that it was difficult to get “20 clocks to chime at the same time.”

John Kirby, US National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, had said that the summit could end without a joint declaration because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“Often times the sticking point tends to be the war in Ukraine because countries like Russia and China are less likely to sign on to language that the rest of the international community is more comfortable signing on to, so we’ll see where it goes. But we’d like to see that, absolutely,” Mr Kirby had said.

China’s support for the declaration also comes at a time when India has strongly objected to its new “standard map” in which it has depicted Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin region as part of its territory. The prolonged border stand-off in eastern Ladakh is another huge sticking point in India’s ties with the country.

When a reporter compared the New Delhi Declaration with the one at the G20 Summit in Bali last year and asked whether references to Russia and its aggressions had been kept out to get the country to sign on, Mr Jaishankar said “Bali was Bali, New Delhi is New Delhi”.

“Bali was a year ago, the situation was different and many things have happened since then. In fact, if you see, in the geopolitical segment of the declaration, there are eight paragraphs, seven of which actually focus on the Ukraine issue. Many of them highlight problems which are of great contemporary significance,” he said.

“One should not have a theological view of this. I think the New Delhi declaration responds to the situation and concerns as they are today just as the Bali declaration did in a situation which was there a year ago,” the minister added.

In the Bali declaration, a paragraph had said the group “deplores in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and demands its complete and unconditional withdrawal from the territory of Ukraine”.

The New Delhi declaration, while making a reference to Bali, states “Concerning the war in Ukraine, while recalling the discussion in Bali, we reiterated our national positions and resolutions adopted at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly and underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety.”
