The victim was identified as Gorelal alias Halle, a native of Madhya Pradesh. (Representational)

Gurugram:

The charred body of a 35-year-old man was recovered in Gurugram’s Sector-15 area in the early hours of Friday, the police said.

The victim was identified as Gorelal alias Halle, a native of Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, the victim along with his friends had visited an under-construction house located in the Sector-15 area of the district in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

The victim met his brother-in-law Rajesh, who was the security guard of the under-construction building.

During Thursday night the victim along with his friends had consumed liquor but on Friday morning, Rajesh was not present at the spot.

Rajesh then informed one of the victim’s friends over the phone and just went to the gallery of the house and there the victim’s friends found Gorelal’s charred body who later informed the police.

Initial police investigation suggests that the accused and the victim had an argument over some issue which led to a fight.

The accused allegedly shot the victim and set him ablaze before fleeing the spot.

Police have launched a search to catch the accused.

The body has been kept in the mortuary for medical examination.

“The reason behind the incident is yet to be known. Prima facie it appeared that some dispute between the two led to the incident. We have identified the accused, he will be caught soon,” said Sandeep Singh, a Gurugram police spokesperson.

Gurugram:

After receiving complaints during vehicle checking at night, Gurugram DCP Traffic has issued instructions not to issue challans to vehicles at night, so that the drivers do not face any problems at night. If necessary, the permission of higher authorities will have to be obtained, only after which the challan can be issued, DCP Traffic issued in the letter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Virendra Vij in a letter dated May 28 read, “Traffic Inspectors are ordered to command all the employees appointed under them in their jurisdiction that no vehicle should be stopped at night and no challan should be issued. If it is very necessary to issue a challan to a driver as per the M.V. Act, in that situation, the challan of that vehicle should be issued as per rules only after bringing it to the notice of the concerned gazetted officer/undersigned and obtaining permission.”

The DCP has also warned that if any policeman does not follow the rules, strict action will be taken against him.

“The orders should be strictly followed. In case of negligence and carelessness, strict departmental action will be taken against the concerned traffic police officer as per rules with immediate effect,” the letter added.

In order to ensure smooth traffic movement at night in the district Gurugram and to resolve the inconveniences faced by common people during road travel, night traffic police personnel were deployed.

“But it has come to the notice of the undersigned that the traffic police personnel deployed at night are unnecessarily stopping the vehicles of common people and harassing them and are also unnecessarily issuing challans for vehicles,” read the letter.

Virendra Vij further stated that the job of traffic personnel deployed at night was to help the common people and drivers and to arrange safe routes in case of a road accident.

The letter stated, “The traffic personnel deployed at night should play an important role as Traffic Police, Gurugram by guiding and helping the common people and drivers and arranging safe routes to take them to their destinations and in case of a road accident. The injured persons should be immediately admitted to the nearest trauma center and the accident-hit vehicles should be immediately removed from the main road and traffic should be allowed to run smoothly.”

However, after this order from the DCP of Gurugram Traffic Police, people have started flouting traffic rules. It is often seen that at night, people drive at high speed and recklessly on the roads of Gurugram, which leads to accidents.

DCP Virendra Vij has informed that the traffic police will continue to be strict against drunk drivers at night so that no major accidents occur.

It may be noted that three to four days a week, the traffic police conduct campaigns in various areas at night and take action against drunk drivers.

Most of the careless drivers on the roads of Millennium City violate the rules and drive vehicles at night. Apart from this, stunt reels are also created at night.

Police said the incident took place Tuesday around 11 am when the woman was alone at her flat with her husband away at work.

Many of the slum’s residents work as domestic help in posh homes nearby.

Gurugram:

Muslims living and working in Haryana’s Gurugram apparently continue to be the target of hate crimes, after posters threatening the residents of a slum in Sector 69A of the ‘mega city’ were put up on Sunday night. A majority of the residents of this slum are Muslims.

There were also posters specifically targeting Muslim women and these come days after a mazar in a Gurugram village was set on fire in the tension after communal clashes in neighbouring Nuh district.

The posters – which also demanding the slum dwellers leave the hovels they call home – read – “Slum dwellers… you need to vacate homes by August 28 and leave… otherwise you may have to face bad consequences. If you want to save your honour… you have 2 days…”

Local police removed the posters and filed a case, but not before panic and fear spread in the community. “We have removed the posters and started investigating the matter,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar told NDTV. He also declared the slums are “illegal”.

So far the police have not made any arrests and have not been able to identify those responsible.

The slum may be an illegal construction but the people who call it home have lived there for years, with many – especially the women – working as domestic help in nearby high-rise apartment complexes. And, understandably, many are terrified after the posters emerged.

“We are more afraid for our children. When my husband and I go to work… the children are here alone. We had gone to the village after the riots but now, these posters have come up,” one woman told NDTV, while another said, “We are scared… have lived here for many years.”

Both women were so frightened the requested their names be withheld.

After the violence in Nuh in July – in which six people were killed – parts of Gurugram are on edge, particularly amid reports of attacks on Muslim shopkeepers. The fear has already led many families to flee from and those who have stayed on so far – like those in the Sector 69A slum – are now nervous.
