Pakistan cricketer Hasan Ali has strongly stated that they are prepared to play the 2025 Champions Trophy on home soil without Team India, if the latter does not agree to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. With Pakistan being the sole hosts of the 2025 Champions Trophy, there has been dispute regarding India’s participation. The BCCI has reportedly also suggested a hybrid model, where India would play their games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or Sri Lanka, but no consensus has been reached yet.

Hasan Ali mentioned that Indian cricketers are eager to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

“If we (Pakistan) are going to India to play, then they should come to Pakistan as well,” said Ali, speaking to Pakistan-based news channel Samaa TV.

“Many Indian players have said in interviews that they want to play in Pakistan. So, it doesn’t mean that the team doesn’t want to come; they definitely do,” Ali said. “But obviously, they have to consider their policies, their country and their board,” he added.

Ali was bullish about the tournament being played without India.

“As the PCB chairman has said, if the Champions Trophy is being hosted by Pakistan, it will only be played in Pakistan. If India do not want to come, we will play without them,” stated Ali.

“If India doesn’t participate, it doesn’t mean cricket has ended,” he added.

This is not the first time a similar issue has risen. In 2023, India played all their games in Sri Lanka, despite Pakistan being the hosts. However, later that year, Pakistan did travel to India for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

The last time India toured Pakistan was the 2008 Asia Cup, which was also the last ICC tournament hosted by them.

The two nations clashed in the final of the last Champions Trophy in 2017, where Pakistan emerged as champions. Hasan Ali was declared the ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Many Pakistan cricketers jumped to the rescue of Haris Rauf, after a video went viral online, where the pacer is seen engaged in a heated squabble with a fan. After Pakistan’s group stage exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup, a fan was caught on camera in an argument with Haris Rauf, having allegedly thrown insults at the player’s family. Rauf’s teammates Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali, as well as Ahmed Shehzad, took to social media to address the behaviour of the fans.

“Let’s keep the debate respectful and considerate of the players’ families. Let’s promote love, peace and respect for the GAME,” tweeted fellow pacer Hasan Ali.

Shadab Khan was firmer with his words, criticising the fans’ behaviour towards the cricketers.

“It is not OKAY to attack anyone personally in their family’s presence, unacceptable. How would you feel if someone attacked you personally while with family?” posted Shadab on X.

Rizwan’s post, however, triggered a major row, as he mentioned that it didn’t matter if the fan was from India or Pakistan, despite the fact that it was cleared by the fan himself that he was from Pakistan.

Rizwan received criticism on social media for bringing India into the debate despite there being no involvement from any Indian fan.

Discarded Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has been the talk of the town on social mediathe last few weeks, criticising Babar Azam and the Pakistan cricket team. However, even he expressed his dislike for the events that had unfolded.

“As cricket fans, you can criticise the performance of players and their actions on the field. No one has the right to ridicule a player or their family, always respect their privacy,” said Shehzad.

“Criticise them for grouping in the team, for their friendships which has kept deserving players out, for prioritising personal milestones over country’s collective success, and for the betterment of Pakistan cricket only,” he added.

Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup – losses to USA and India leading to their early exit – has not gone down well among former Pakistan cricketers and experts, with many calling for a change in the team. However, after the attack on Rauf’s family, the players made sure that such behaviour remains inexcusable.

Pakistan on Wednesday released pace bowler Hasan Ali from its squad ahead of first T20 International against England at Leeds. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said since senior fast bowler Haris Rauf has regained match fitness, Hasan has been released to complete his commitments in English County cricket. Hasan was initially picked in an 18-member squad that went to Ireland and is now in England as a cover for Haris who is recovering from a groin problem since February.

Hasan had competed in one of the T20 Internationals in Ireland but leaked plenty of runs.

The players in England will move to the USA and West Indies for the World T20 Cup. Pakistan is the only country which has not announced its 15-member WC squad.

Batters Agha Ali Salman and Irfan Niazi who are in England, are expected to be named as travelling reserves for the mega event.

The Pakistan and England series is the last T20 commitment for both teams before the World Cup. England players, who were part of the IPL, have all returned from India for the four-match series.

A fit-again pacer Hasan Ali hit the straps while likes of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and senior player Mohammed Rizwan had extended net sessions at Eden Gardens on the eve of their World Cup match against Bangladesh in Kolkata. Having suffered four defeats in a row, Pakistan face a must-win situation against Bangladesh here to keep their slender semi-final qualification hopes alive. Down with fever, Ali missed Pakistan’s previous match against South Africa and in his absence Mohammad Wasim Junior impressed bowling at the death and returned with two wickets.

With Ali now receiving green light as far as his return to play is concerned, it remains to be seen if Pakistan will play both Ali and Wasim Junior to make it a four-pronged pace attack on a Eden strip which is conducive for seam bowling.

Dropping Mohammad Nawaz could be an option.

The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder was a big letdown bowling freebies against South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj, who sealed their one-wicket win the other day at Chennai.

Skipper Babar was also seen fuming with Nawaz after he drifted down the leg to Maharaj, who hit it for a boundary to close in on the target.

Ali bowled in full tandem with the likes of their premier pace duo of Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The batters looked focused against their reserve bowler Zaman Khan, who bowls with a Lasith Malinga-like slinging action.

Struggling Fakhar Zaman, who also pulled out with an injury, appeared fit along with Shadab Khan, who was substituted for concussions Leg-spinner Usama Mir became the first ever concussion substitute and returned with impressive figures of 2/45 from eight overs.

Earlier Pakistan’s practice session in the afternoon was briefly interrupted when speakers suddenly started playing loud DJ music. Pakistan players soon objected the music as it was then stopped.

The likes of Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen Shah were also seen having a great time with the fans, obliging to selfies and autographs.

Didn’t play to our calibre, but the loss to India is not the end of the world: Hasan Ali https://artifexnews.net/article67439643-ece/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 22:30:25 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/article67439643-ece/ Read More “Didn’t play to our calibre, but the loss to India is not the end of the world: Hasan Ali” »

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali exuded confidence that his side can recover from the dispiriting loss to India, ahead of the World Cup encounter against Australia.

“We agree that we didn’t play to our calibre, but it’s not the end of the world,” Ali said, on Thursday. “I will say this — nothing has changed.”

Make or break

“India – Pakistan match is such that it can make or break your career. Maybe if it was against some other team or if we had won, you wouldn’t be asking us this. We sat together and had a healthy discussion about the things that need improvement.”

The Men in Green will be well-served if the betterment touches the bowling department first. With Naseem Shah injured (replaced by Ali) and Shaheen Afridi not in top form, Pakistan appears to have lost a bit of its edge.

Optimistic

“Only one bowler has changed, the rest all are the same. I think you guys don’t like my wild card entry. But I feel proud.”

“Shaheen has won us many matches. I know he is not fit right now but very soon he will be there. The games here are very high scoring. But this is not an excuse. You have to find a way and our effort will be to perform.”

Australia captain Pat Cummins was mindful of the standard of cricket Pakistan is capable of playing.

Really strong side

“They’re a side that always seems to be right up there,” Cummins said. “Pretty well structured. Some really good quick bowlers, some spin bowlers who can bowl 20 of their overs.”

“I think [Mohammad] Rizwan is the leading run-scorer. Babar Azam is always good. They’re a really strong side pretty much in all facets.”

The 30-year-old hoped his batters would rediscover their hunger for runs after a quiet start to the tournament.

“Especially here in Bangalore, I dare say it’s going to be high scoring. I think the way Mitchie [Mitchell Marsh] and Davey [David Warner] started by taking the game on [vs. Sri Lanka]… that’s what we want. I’m sure runs are around the corner.”

The Pakistan cricket team will take on arch-rivals India in the 12th match of ICC World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. Babar Azam and co. are coming into this encounter on the back of consecutive victories and so are India. But only one team will emerge victorious in this contest. The two arch-rivals locked horns in the Asia Cup Super 4 match recently and Pakistan lost that match by a huge margin of 228 runs. They got outplayed in all departments and that’s why they will be eager to come up with a much better performance this time.

Here, we shall take a look at the predicted Pakistan playing XI for this crucial ODI clash against the Indian cricket team.

Openers: Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq

Abdullah Shafique walked into the Pakistan lineup in the previous match and made an instant impact. The right-hander played a fabulous innings of 113 and will be eager to carry that form forward into the India vs Pakistan encounter. Imam-ul-Haq, on the other hand, has encountered failures in both games so far with scores of 15 and 12 to his name. The southpaw needs to step up in this highly important fixture.

Middle-order: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel

Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket team captain, has struggled to get going. He has registered scores of 5 and 10 in the two games so far and he will be eager to make things work in this high-stakes clash. Mohammad Rizwan, on the other hand, has performed well in both games so far. He followed up his 68 against the Netherlands with another superb knock of 131* against Sri Lanka.

The left-handed Saud Shakeel has also justified his position in the Pakistani side. He was adjudged the Player of the Match against the Netherlands for his exceptional knock of 68 and then he also did well against Sri Lanka to contribute 31 runs at a crucial juncture.

All-rounders: Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz

The Pakistan all-rounders have been quiet so far. Iftikhar Ahmed did play a good cameo of an unbeaten 22 from just 10 deliveries against Sri Lanka and also claimed a wicket in the game against the Netherlands with his off-spin. But Shadab Khan, a leggie, and the left-arm orthodox Mohammad Nawaz are yet to perform to their potential. Both spin bowling all-rounders have been expensive with their bowling and they haven’t contributed much with their batting either. So, this India vs Pakistan match is going to be a good opportunity for them to showcase their talent.

Bowlers: Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf

Pacer Hasan Ali is playing for Pakistan in the absence of Naseem Shah and he has been delivering. After picking up a couple of wickets against the Netherlands, Hasan Ali delivered with four wickets against Sri Lanka. He was a bit expensive, though, conceding 71 runs in his 10 overs against the Lankans.

Left-armer Shaheen Afridi hasn’t been performing to his potential either. He has claimed only a couple of wickets in the two games so far and was quite expensive against Sri Lanka. Haris Rauf, however, has been bowling well. After registering figures of 3/43 against the Netherlands, he went on to claim two wickets against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s predicted XI for Cricket World Cup 2023 clash against India:Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the squad for the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. While most of the top names are there, there were a couple of surprises. Fast bowler Naseem Shah who suffered an injury during the recently concluded Asia Cup is not part of Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup squad. But veteran pacer Hasan Ali has made a comeback into the Cricket World Cup squad. Babar Azam will lead the Pakistan cricket team at the Cricket World Cup while Shadab Khan will be his deputy.

Chief Selector Inzamam ul Haq said Hasan had been recalled because of the injury to Naseem Shah. Naseem, 20, had suffered a shoulder injury during their match against India in the Asia Cup. He has been advised to undergo surgery and is expected to recover in three to four months.

Inzamam also announced three travelling reserves — wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and fast bowler Zaman Khan for the World Cup who would be considered if there were any injuries in the squad.

“We were forced to make one change because of an unfortunate injury to Naseem Shah. We had a few injury scares in the recent Asia Cup, but I am glad to share that all the players are fully fit and are eager to perform for their country in the all-important tournament,” Inzamam said in a release.

“I have received encouraging reports from our medical panel about Haris Rauf. He has started to (shadow) bowl at the National Cricket Academy and will be available for selection.

“I have a firm belief that this squad can bring the World Cup trophy to Pakistan and make the whole nation proud with their incredible performances. It is time to get behind our team and provide them with the backing and support that they need.” Pakistan will play two warm-up matches against New Zealand on September 29 and Australia on October 3 before their tournament opener against the Netherlands on October 6.

Pakistan squad for ODI Cricket World Cup 2023: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Fakhar Zaman, Imam Ul Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Usama Mir, Mohammad Wasim Jr

Traveling Reserves: Abrar Ahmed, Zaman Khan, Mohammad Haris
