Following a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz have been sacked from their positions in Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee. Razzaq was a part of the men’s and women’s selection committee, while Wahab was a selector of the men’s team. The PCB in a statement confirmed that “they have notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup”. The statement from PCB comes after Pakistan’s early departure from the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 where they exited after the Group Stage, including losses against USA and India.

Wahab earlier served as the chief selector before being reinstated as one of the seven members of the men’s selection committee in March this year. The former fast bowler had also travelled with the Pakistan side to the T20 World Cup as senior team manager.

Pakistan have further confirmed the restructuring of the selection committee and will “provide further updates on the composition in due course”.

Over the last four years, the PCB has had six top selectors — Wahab, Mohammad Wasim, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Haroon Rashid, and Misbah-ul-Haq, all of whom had brief tenures.

Taking to Instagram, Pandya shared a video detailing some of his most important moments recently, like the injury in the 50-over World Cup last year, his poor form during the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year and him lifting the T20 World Cup title and winners’ medal.

In the T20 WC, Pandya scored 144 runs in six innings at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 151.57, with a half-century and best score of 50*. He also took 11 wickets in eight games at an average of 17.36 and an economy rate of 7.64, with the best figures of 3/20.

This tournament marked a redemption tale for Hardik, who was booed out of near every stadium across India during the IPL 2024 after taking over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians (MI) from five-time IPL champion Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder, who was just making a comeback into the game after suffering an injury to his ankle in the 50-over World Cup last year, became a victim of online trolling and fan wars as he was accused of betraying the MI franchise, Rohit and his former franchise Gujarat Titans (GT), which he led to IPL title in 2022.

India captain Rohit Sharma came up with an emotional post on social media for former head coach of the team, Rahul Dravid. The latter’s coaching tenure ended with the conclusion of T20 World Cup 2024. It was a dream finish to Dravid’s role as the India great eventually managed to win a major ICC trophy, something he failed to do during his playing career. Rohit praised Rahul’s humility and expressed happiness for the fact that the legend signed off with a World Cup trophy.

“Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt,” wrote Rohit in a post on Instagram.

In his post, Rohit also revealed that his wife Ritika Sajdeh refers to Dravid as his “work wife”

“Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too,” the India captain wrote.

“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend,” he added.

Hardik was the one holding trophy in his hands when the World Cup-winning Team India started its victory parade from Marine Drive in Mumbai. The parade ended at Wankhede Stadium, where the entire team was felicitated by the BCCI.

“India, you mean the world to me! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the love.. these are moments that I will never ever forget! Thank you for coming out to celebrate with us, despite the rains| We love you so much!” wrote Pandya on X while uploading his picture from the victory parade.

Thursday, July 5 was a memorable day for Team India as the side returned from Barbados and received a rousing reception in the nation. What started with a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, ended with an unforgettable felicitation ceremony organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the T20 World Cup champions at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A victory parade from Marine Drive to the iconic Wankhede was also a part of the itinerary.

During the felicitation ceremony, BCCI handed Team India Rs 125 crore, a prize money the board had already announced for the side after its T20 World Cup triumph.

After the felicitation, the players of Indian cricket team walked towards the fans and handed them signed balls before walking out of the ground. Some lucky fans also got selfies with players and their autographs as well.

Earlier, a T20 World Cup victory parade of Rohit Sharma and co. kicked off at Marine Drive and concluded at the Wankhde Stadium, crossing a sea of fans who had gathered to celebrate the team’s success.

This all took place only after Team India landed in New Delhi from Barbados and then visited the Prime Minister’s residence for a scheduled meeting with him. The players then took a flight to Mumbai and landed there in the evening.

India went into Saturday’s title clash as one of the two unbeaten teams alongside South Africa. Player of the Match Virat Kohli stepped up when it mattered the most with a 59-ball 76 to help India post a competitive 176/7, the highest total in a Men’s T20 World Cup final. His 72-run stand for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel, who made 47 off 31 balls, and a 57-run partnership with Shivam Dube, who hit a 16-ball 27.

Sharing a post on ‘Instagram’ with a picture of his wife, Virat wrote, “None of this would remotely be possible without you my love. He scored 76 off 59 balls, studded with six fours and two sixes as he anchored the Indian innings after skipper Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav were out in quick succession as India were reduced to 34/3 in the fifth over.
