Australian cricketers Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Usman Khawaja and Josh Hazlewood went through a funny lie detector test. During the test, all the cricketers were asked some funny questions and a blue light on the buzzer would go up if the answer is correct. However, a wrong answer would see the a red light go up on the buzzer with the respective player getting a bit of electric shock. The players were asked several questions related to their personal lives, and during that they also spilled beans about several incidents related to another star Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell.

Travis Head was asked if he drank more than 35 beers after Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup win. The star batter replied with a “no”, but got the electric shock. “It’s a lie,” said one of the two hosts during the show.

During the funny interaction, Labuschagne was also asked about the correct pronounciation of his name.

“Is the current Australian team has a better environment without David Warner?” was the question to Khawaja. He replied with a “no”, but the red light lit up.

Notably, Maxwell missed his side’s 2023 Cricket World Cup match against England after meeting a freak golf cart accident. As per reports, Maxwell slipped and fell off the back of the cart, suffering a head injury which saw him being dropped out of Australia’s playing XI vs England.

“Do you think that was a cover-up when Glenn Maxwell fell off a golf cart,” asked one of the hosts from Khawaja.

“No! Because I was there. I saw him fall off the cart,” said Khawaja but he got the shock, which as per the game rules was a lie.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh revealed that Maxwell went to Turkey to get a new set of teeth.

Australia fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood has conceded the hosts’ are itching to clinch a Border-Gavaskar Trophy series win at home as that’s the only one box which is left to be ticked off by them. After beating India 2-0 in the 2014/15 series, Australia have endured a drought of winning the prestigious trophy at home. In the absence of Steve Smith and David Warner due to ball-tampering bans, Australia lost to India in the 2018/19 series, followed by sensationally losing the 2020/21 series 2-1, despite bowling the visitors out for 36 in the second innings at Adelaide.

“There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series. It’s quite astounding to say that. That’s one we need to tick off, definitely, in particular at home – we should pretty much win every series here at home.”

“That last series we obviously bowled them out for 36 in Adelaide and we thought here we go, (we are) back at home (and) confident on these grounds. People say we played India B in that last Test, but they can sometimes be stronger than the best team. They’ve got unbelievable depth in all formats and we are starting to see that now,” said Hazlewood to ESPNcricinfo.

Hazlewood, who will be part of Australia’s upcoming T20I and ODI tour of the United Kingdom, has also an ambition to play the 2025 World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June after missing last year’s final, where the side beat India at The Oval to claim the title.

“It’s always in the background, we have the table up (to see) where we are sitting and what we need to tick off. For me, it’s a big one because I didn’t get to play the last one in England so that’s a burning one for me,” the pacer said.

It has been a dismal run for Virat Kohli in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and it got worse for the Indian cricket team star batter as he was dismissed for a duck during the Super 8 match against Australia on Monday. Kohli miscued a shot off Josh Hazlewood and Tim David completed an easy catch to end his stay at the crease. This was the second duck for Virat in this year’s competition after he was dismissed for a golden duck during the group stage match against United States. The star batter joined former pacer Ashish Nehra as the second Indian batter ever to score two ducks in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Nehra had two ducks to his name during the 2010 edition of the T20 World Cup.

Coming to the match, India defeated Australia by 24 runs to book their spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals. Batting first, India rode an explosive knock from captain Rohit Sharma to post a big total of 205/5. In reply, Indian bowlers restricted Australia 181/7 in 20 overs to clinch the victory.

“Satisfying. We know the opposition and the threat they bring. As a team we did well, kept doing the things we needed to do. Gives us good confidence as a team. 200 is a good score but when you are playing here with wind being a big factor, anything can happen,” India captain Rohit Sharma said.

“But I think we used to conditions really well, and it was about individuals doing their job. If was about getting wickets at the right time. (On Kuldeep) We know the strength he has, but we need to use him when necessary. In New York, there were seamer friendly wickets.”

“He had to miss out but we knew he had a big role to play out here. (On semi-final) We don’t want to do anything different, play the same way and understand what each person has to do.”

“Play freely and not think too much on what’s lying ahead. Not think about the opposition. We have been doing it consistently, just need to continue. (On playing England in semi) It will be a nice match, nothing changes for us as a team,” he added.

Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli‘s horrible form at the T20 World Cup 2024 continues as he was dismissed for a duck during the Super 8 match against Australia on Monday. Kohli faced just five deliveries before he completely miscued a shot off the bowling of Josh Hazlewood and the catch was completely comfortably by Tim David at wide mid-on. Kohli has not performed well in the competition after he was chosen as Rohit Sharma‘s opening partner with just 66 runs in 6 matches. This was his fourth single-digit score of this year’s competition and social media was abuzz following his dismissal.

Earlier, Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to field.

“We are going to bowl first. Looks a belter, it looks lovely. It’s a quarter final, looking forward to it, big challenge against India. We have had ourselves in this situation before, every game is a must-win now. We got an experienced group, a great staff. Starc comes in for Agar,” Marsh said at the toss.

India skipper Rohit Sharma said that he would have fielded if India won the toss.

“We would have fielded first as well, looks a bit sticky. We wanted to chase. We know what exactly we are doing, will try to do our best. I hope it doesn’t change much. The overhead conditions also matter in this part of the world. We have adapted well, hopefully another game where we put up a show. Every game matters in this tournament, nothing changes. We are playing the same team,” Rohit said.

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah.

Australia (Playing XI): Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh(c), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade(w), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

At the end, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team romped home to a comfortable six-wicket team in the side’s first match of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia. In the Cricket World Cup match in Chennai, India had Australia on the mats after bowling out the former champions for a paltry 199. However, things could have gone horribly wrong for India after that as their famed top-order toppled. Rohit Sharma (0), Ishan Kishan (0) and Shreyas Iyer (0) went back to the hut within the first two overs with the scorecard reading 2/3 in the Cricket World Cup match.(India’s full schedule | World Cup points table)

However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took over after that. The duo stitched a 165-run partnership (highest for India in a Cricket World Cup match against Australia) to take the match away from Australia. While KL Rahul stayed not out on 97, Virat Kohli fell on 85. Kohli could have departed on 12, however. The incident happened in the eight over by Josh Hazlewood.

On the third ball of the over, Hazlewood stunned Virat Kohli with a short ball, who top-edged it. Mitchell Marsh came running from mid-wicket but could not hold on to the ball with some confusion with the approaching wicketkeeper. Ultimately that drop, proved costly.

Talking about the match, Virat Kohli channelised his inner champion to pull the Indian team out of choppy waters with a masterly 85, which paved the way for a six-wicket victory over Australia in their opening match of the World Cup on Sunday. Kohli found a trusted ally in uber-cool KL Rahul (97 not out off 115 balls) during their match-winning stand of 165 that eventually made the 200-run target seem like a cakewalk on a testing track although they took 41.2 overs to achieve it.

Their doughty alliance came after three Indian top-order batters returned to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

But equally responsible for India getting two points are their spinners. Ravindra Jadeja (3/28 in 10 overs) along with Ravichandran Ashwin (2/34 in 10 overs) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/42 in 10 overs) made life miserable for the Australians while bowling them out for 199 in 49.3 overs.

But Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were incisive during the first three overs as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer were walked back for ducks and the scoreboard read a sorry 2/3.

The audacious Kohli, whom the Indian fans fall in love with again every day, showed the first glimpse of fightback and unfurled an elegant drive past pacer Hazlewood, a shot that was worth million dollars.

Gauging that the ball is not coming onto the bat, Kohli slightly put his front-foot across and showed full face of the bat, rather than being rooted to the crease.

India weren’t out of the woods at that point but it felt as if nothing was wrong. However, it could well have been 12 for 4 in no time.

Kohli mistimed a pull shot off Hazlewood but a running-in Mitchell Marsh failed to settle in properly under the ball as it slipped through his hand.

Skipper Rohit spoke about a bit of luck which is mandatory in big events and Marsh’s big time bungle was exactly the rub of the green that the hosts needed at that moment.

It was the reprieve that Kohli needed and with the target not being a big one, h e and Rahul focussed on rebuilding the innings with singles and twos.

That 61 of his runs came through singles and doubles during his 116-ball knock stood as a testimony to his fitness.

For nearly 50 deliveries, he didn’t hit a boundary until Cameron Green‘s military medium pace was introduced — two deliveries on the pads were clipped away with disdain.

Once he reached 50 off 75 balls, Kohli pulled a slow bouncer from Pat Cummins towards deep mid-wicket.

Starc hit him flush on the helmet with a short delivery when Kohli was batting in the 70s. A concussion test was done and two balls later, a square driven four reiterated that ‘Batter Kohli’ can’t be unnerved that easily.

Just when it looked like Kohli was cruising to his 48th ODI hundred, his pull off Hazlewood found Marnus Labuschagne.

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood on Sunday absolved Mitchell Marsh of blame for committing one of cricket’s biggest sins — dropping a catch that would have seen the back of India superstar Virat Kohli. Chasing just 200 to win their high-profile World Cup clash, India looked like slipping to 20-4 when Kohli top-edged a pull to square leg where Marsh was waiting to gobble up the catch. However, possibly distracted by wicketkeeper Alex Carey also rushing to the danger area, Marsh let the ball slip to the ground.

At the time, Kohil had made just 12 runs. He went on to hit his 67th ODI half-century before being finally dismissed for 85, successfully caught by Marnus Labuschagne off Hazlewood.

With K.L. Rahul (97), he put on a match-winning 165 for the fourth wicket.

“I didn’t think Carey could get there. I think it was Mitch’s catch and probably just Carey got quite close in the end so it might have just put Mitch off,” said Hazlewood who took three of the four Indian wickets to fall on Sunday.

“Yeah, he dropped a catch, it’s one of those things that happens and everyone’s training hard and working hard off the field to hang on to them. So, yeah, we’ll continue on.”

Five-time winners Australia went down to the hosts by six wickets after being bundled out for 199 on a spin-friendly pitch.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja led the Indian spin charge with figures of 3-28 including the prized scalp of Steve Smith for 46 with a delivery that pitched and turned away from the right-hander.

Hazlewood’s wickets included India captain Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, both without scoring, which plunged India into trouble at three down for two runs.

However, the fast bowler said the team will not read too much into the defeat.

“We might come up against these conditions again at other grounds throughout the next eight games,” he said.

“You know we might have to reassess and say yeah 260 is a good score rather than 300-plus to what we’ve seen on a few other grounds.”

Australia elected to bat first but lost Marsh for a duck before David Warner (41) and Smith rebuilt the innings.

Kuldeep Yadav broke the stand with Warner’s wicket and Australia collapsed from 110-2 to 140-7 and were finally bowled out in 49.3 overs.

Hazlewood said the team will take lessons from the loss.

“Batting in that first innings, that was probably as extreme as the conditions are going to get,” he said.

“I think, in terms of spin and playing spin throughout the middle and trying to find ways to score, we have to keep that run rate ticking over without losing wickets.

“Hopefully it gets a little bit easier from here on in and they’ll come up with some new plans and go from there.”

India’s designated number 4 Shreyas Iyer, whose fitness came under the scanner in the Asia Cup even though he was coming back from a long injury-lay off, has not been able to get time in the middle due to different reasons. While a back spasm ruled him out of the business end of Asia Cup, an avoidable run out on Friday ended his nervy 8-ball stay in the centre.
