Bengaluru:

A minor boy, student of Class 10, has been arrested in Karnataka for allegedly killing his aunt after she declined his indecent proposal, the police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place at a village near Uppinangady town in Dakshina Kannada district.

According to police, a 37-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday night at her residence under suspicious circumstances.

The accused minor boy who was at her home on Sunday, allegedly made sexual advances when the woman was sleeping. However, the woman — his maternal aunt — resisted and scolded him, and also asked him to behave properly.

Confessing his crime, the accused told the police that, fearing that she would tell others about his act, the Class 10 student smothered her to death using a pillow after sometime when she went back to sleep.

After killing her, he informed his father that the woman had suffered a heart attack and died.

The police, however, had suspicions about the boy since the woman’s body was spotted.

His father also informed the police about scratches on the accused’s back.

When the police questioned him, he confessed to having used a pillow to smother his aunt to death, saying he must have received the scratches while the woman was trying to push him away to escape.

A pregnant woman died during an illegal abortion. Her parents were arrested (Representational)

Bagalkot, Karnataka:

Karnataka Police have arrested the parents of a pregnant woman who died during an illegal abortion, said officials on Saturday.

The parents have been accused of encouraging their daughter to opt for female foeticide. The incident was reported from Mahalingpur town in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district.

The arrested individuals have been identified as father Sanjay Gowli and mother Sangeetha Gowli.

Thirty-three-year-old Sonali, a resident of Sangli in Maharashtra, underwent an abortion at a home in Mahalingpur after she found out that it was a female foetus. She already had two daughters. The woman died on May 27.

After her death, the Maharashtra Police from Sangli arrested seven persons, including the prime accused nurse, Kavitha Baddannavar, who performed the abortion.

Preliminary inquiry indicated that the deceased, Sonali, had the scanning done in Maharashtra to confirm the gender of the foetus and paid Rs 40,000 to the accused nurse to perform the abortion.

The case has been transferred to the Mahalingpur police station in Bagalkot district from the Sangli police station in Maharashtra. Preliminary investigations suggested that there was a similar case against the accused nurse, Kavitha, in 2022.

Kavitha worked as a housekeeping staff at a private hospital. The preliminary probe revealed that she was in possession of a scanning machine, and authorities have launched a probe regarding the involvement of some influential people in the suspected racket.

Children’s Welfare Committee Member, Shashidhar Kosumbe, visited the residence of the accused, Kavitha, with the police and criticized the negligence of the District Health and Family Welfare Officer, D.B. Pattanashetty.

“This is a shameful incident for any civilized society. The authorities’ negligence towards Kavitha’s activities is evident. A report will be sent to the government and a separate complaint will be registered by the committee,” said Ms Kosumbe.

Sources told news agency IANS that each individual was charged Rs 2 lakh for entry.

Bengaluru:

The Karnataka Police, which is probing the case related to a rave party in Bengaluru involving over 200 people, where narcotics were seized, is also investigating the possibility of a sex racket being operated alongside the supply of drugs.

Five individuals were arrested in the case and the police department has transferred the investigation from the Electronics City Police Station to the Narcotics Wing of the City Central Crime Branch (CCB).

The investigation revealed that the Rave party began on Saturday evening (May 20) at the GM Farm House in Singena Agrahara on the outskirts of Bengaluru and over 200 people attended it.

Many attendees left the farmhouse in the wee hours of Sunday (May 21), while others joined the party on Sunday.

Sources told news agency IANS that each individual was charged Rs 2 lakh for entry and was asked to claim that they were attending a birthday party.

Police sources confirmed that they are strongly suspecting that the organisers were also running a sex racket.

Everything was planned meticulously and all demands of participants were fulfilled.

Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara stated that the government aims to make Karnataka a drug-free state and will not tolerate Rave parties.

He warned that students who come to Karnataka for studies and engage in taking drugs and selling them, are being monitored and will be sent back to their states.

The police earlier said that the Rave party, titled ‘Sunset to Sunrise Victory,’ was attended by more than 100 people, including techies, Telugu actors, and others.

MDMA, cocaine, hydro ganja, and other substances were allegedly used by those who attended the party.
