India vs Pakistan: Updated Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 Points Table After India’s Massive Win

Kuldeep Yadav registered a five-wicket haul while Virat Kohli and KL Rahul smashed unbeaten centuries as India outplayed Pakistan by 228 runs in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match in Colombo on Monday. The game that started on Sunday but was moved to the reserve day due to rain eventually saw India finishing on a high with the bat as well as the ball. Resuming at the score of 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs on Monday with Kohli and Rahul at the crease, India posted a daunting total of 356 for 2 in 50 overs against Pakistan.

Kohli scored 122 not out while Rahul hit unbeaten 111 to steer India to the big total. Only if India’s dominance in the game lacked anything, Kuldeep returned with figures of 5 for 25.

After the big victory, India rose to the top spot in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 table. They have two points to their credit but a superb net run rate (NRR) of +4.560 has put them at helm.

On the other hand, Pakistan slipped to the number three spot with an NRR of -1.892.

Sri Lanka are at the second spot with an NRR of +0.420 while Bangladesh are at the bottom place in the four-team table with an NRR of -0.749.

Talking about the game, Kohli’s supreme fitness was evident in his 47th ODI century while comeback man Rahul produced an equally engaging ton on comeback as India thrashed a listless Pakistan by record 228-run margin in the rain-marred contest.

This is India’s biggest win in terms of runs against the cross-border neighbours.

India posted an imposing 356 for 2, as Kohli (122 not out off 94 balls) and Rahul (111 not out off 106 balls), which was his sixth ODI hundred, pummelled a hapless Pakistan, whose chase ended at 128 for 8 as Kuldeep Yadav (5/25) scythed through them.

One of the finest Indian cricketers, Sunil Gavaskar recently jumped into the India vs Bharat debate, sharing his opinion on the name-change saga that has gripped the entire nation.

Opinions on the subject have been coming thick and heavy, with sporting personalities sharing their take on the topic.

After Virender Sehwag publicly shared his take on the matter, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar also shared his insights, suggesting whatever call is taken, it has to be done at the official level.

Gavaskar admitted that the original name remains ‘Bharat’. But, if a change has to come in, it should be brought into everything.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Sehwag had made an appeal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 2011 World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup-winning cricketer appealed to the BCCI to consider having jerseys for the Indian team participating in the upcoming ICC World Cup with the name Bharat instead of India.

Sehwag posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) to express that it’s high time to officially reinstate our original name, ‘Bharat’.

“I have always believed a name should be one that instills pride in us. We are Bhartiyas. India is a name given by the British, and it has been long overdue to get our original name, ‘Bharat’, back officially. I urge the BCCI and Jay Shah to ensure that this World Cup our players have Bharat on our chest,” he said.

Sehwag referenced instances of other nations using their indigenous names in global tournaments as examples.

“In the 1996 World Cup, the Netherlands came to play in the World Cup in Bharat as Holland. In 2003, when we met them, they were in the Netherlands and continue to be so. Burma has changed the name given by the British back to Myanmar. And many others have gone back to their original names,” Sehwag said.

“On Certain Days They Will Have…”: India Batting Coach’s Blunt Take On Pakistan Pacers

India batting coach Vikram Rathour said their batters have the skills to post a big score against the Shaheen Shah Afridi-led bowling unit. Pacers Afridi and Haris Rauf had rocked the Indian top order in their Group A league match here on Saturday, reducing them to 66 for 4 inside 15 overs. “We will try to bat better in that (Super 4) match. (In the last match) the conditions and situation were different. They are a good bowling attack. It is not like we can’t play them (Pakistan pacers). They are a good bowling attack and on certain days they will have an edge. When we get a start, our batters are capable of putting up a big score,” Rathour said at the post-match press conference after India defeated Nepal by 10 wickets on Monday.

Rathour was chuffed to see Ishan Kishan responding to the team’s guiding philosophy of flexibility with a mature knock against Pakistan.

Kishan, who batted at No. 5 for the first time in his career, made 82 off 81 balls against Pakistan. He shared a 138-run alliance with Hardik Pandya to help India post 266 but the match was eventually rained off.

Rathour said it is a good sign for India to have two very good batters in Kishan and KL Rahul to choose from for the middle-order slot.

“Ishan played really well against Pakistan. KL Rahul has done well for the team in the last two years. It is a good problem to have…we have two very good players to choose from.

“It is better to have such players to select from rather than having two struggling batsmen,” said Rathour.

Rathour said India needed to consider conditions while deciding to include either four specialist bowlers or three outright bowlers and one bowling all-rounder in the playing 11.

“Shardul does give depth (in batting), and he bowls as well. Shami is a better bowler but our batting will be compromised a bit (if he gets picked). But there will be some matches where we need to go with an out-and-out pace line-up. When we play on a pitch where we need an extra spinner that option is also available in Axar (Patel). So, it is good that we have a team that can play against all comers,” Rathour signed off.
