The minister said rules apply equally to everyone.

New Delhi:

A day after the BJP submitted a notice against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha over alleged inaccuracies in his speech, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said any member trying to mislead the House will not get away easily and the “rules will get them”.

Mr Rijiju was referring to a notice submitted in Lok Sabha by BJP member Bansuri Swaraj urging the Speaker to take cognisance of her notice against certain inaccuracies in Mr Gandhi’s speech on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address.

“When the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha kept on lying about many things, including facts and figures, a notice was put to the Speaker and we have requested the Speaker to take appropriate action. We are waiting for the action,” Mr Rijiju said in response to questions on the issue.

The minister said rules apply equally to everyone as no member is above the Chair in the House.

“Nobody can expect to escape. There is no special privilege for anyone just because he comes from a privileged family,” Mr Rijiju said.

“If anybody wants to misuse the position in the House to mislead the House, he will not easily get away. Rule will get them,” the Parliamentary Affairs minister said.

After Mr Gandhi’s speech on Monday on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Mr Rijiju accused the Congress leader of making “untruthful” claims about a host of issues, including the Agnipath scheme and the compensation paid to locals in Ayodhya.

Under Direction 115 of the Speaker, a member wishing to point out any mistake or inaccuracy in a statement made by a minister or any other member can, before referring to the matter in the House, write to the Speaker pointing out the particulars of the mistake or the inaccuracy and seek permission to raise the issue.

The member may place before the Speaker such evidence that she or he has in support of the allegation.

The Speaker can bring the matter to the notice of the minister or the member concerned to ascertain the factual position.

Parliament session LIVE 2024: BJP has accused Mr Gandhi of labelling the Hindu community as violent.

New Delhi:
After Rahul Gandhi’s fiery speech in Parliament yesterday, in which he launched a scathing attack on BJP – large portions of which have been expunged from official records – the stage is set for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anticipated response

Here are 10 points on this big story:

  1. Mr Gandhi’s fierce criticism in the House drew reactions from the treasury benches, including multiple interjections by Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

  2. The heated debate took place during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to a joint session of Parliament. Mr Gandhi’s speech was not devoid of controversy, leading to portions being expunged from the official records.

  3. The BJP accused Mr Gandhi of labelling the entire Hindu community as violent, prompting calls for an apology from both Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah.  “This issue is very serious. Calling the entire Hindu community violent is a serious issue,” PM Modi said.

  4. Home Minister Shah demanded an apology from Mr Gandhi, accusing him of offending millions of Hindus and dismissing his right to speak on non-violence given the Congress’s historical actions during the Emergency and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

  5. The Congress leader accused the BJP of attacking the Constitution and misusing central agencies against him.

  6. Mr Gandhi’s speech also targeted several government policies, including the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, which he claimed disproportionately benefits wealthy students over meritorious ones. He criticised the Agniveer scheme, calling for greater respect and benefits for military personnel.

  7. Despite his sharp criticisms, Mr Gandhi concluded his speech with a call for unity and constructive dialogue. He urged the BJP to view the opposition not as adversaries but as partners in the nation-building process.

  8. The day’s debates extended into the Rajya Sabha, where Leader of Opposition and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s comments about PM Modi’s “divisive” campaign speeches also faced repeated objections from BJP members.

  9. Both parties conducted press conferences to present their narratives. BJP leaders, including Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kiren Rijiju along with BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi, denounced Mr Gandhi’s remarks. Congress leaders held their own conference to criticise the ruling party further and defend Mr Gandhi’s statements.

  10. Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming address is expected to tackle the accusations head-on. PM Modi’s address will mark his first speech to the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) parliamentary party during this session, following his assumption of office for a third consecutive term.

Rahul Gandhi said that every religion teaches us to not scare anybody and not get afraid of anything.

New Delhi:

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said that every religion teaches us to not scare anybody and not get afraid of anything.

He further emphasised that every religion also gives the lesson to stand with the truth and follow the path of non-violence.

Taking to the social media platform Instagram, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Every religion teaches – do not make anybody scared and do not be scared of anything. Stand with the truth, not back down, and follow the path of non-violence. When the BJP spreads fear in the country, the INDIA alliance adopted this thought to protect the constitution and democracy.”

Meanwhile, on Monday, Rahul Gandhi’s maiden speech in Lok Sabha as Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha generated a lot of political heat with BJP leaders accusing him “of speaking lies, misleading the House and terming the entire Hindu community violent” and the Congress hitting back with counter allegations against the Modi government.

The atmosphere was charged in Rajya Sabha also with BJP members repeatedly objecting to Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks as he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “divisive” speeches in the Lok Sabha campaign.

The two Houses took up the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address with PM Modi slamming Rahul Gandhi during his speech.

“Calling the entire Hindu community violent is a very serious matter,” PM Modi said. Home Minister Amit Shah demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi.

While the BJP held a press conference later to denounce Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, Congress also held an evening presser to slam the ruling party at the Centre.

Rahul Gandhi launched a multi-pronged attack on the BJP targeting it over its remarks during Lok Sabha campaign, the NEET-UG controversy, Agniveer scheme.

Participating in the debate on the Motion Of Thanks on the President’s Address, Rahul Gandhi targeted the BJP-led government over the Agniveer scheme and claimed that Agniveer is not called a ‘jawan’ and said that Agniveers serving for a period of four years will not get a pension.

“One Agniveer lost his life in a landmine blast but he is not called a ‘martyr’… ‘Agniveer’ is a use and throw labourer,” Rahul Gandhi alleged, attacking the BJP-led NDA government over the scheme,” he had said.

He also called the Hindu symbol ‘Abhayamudra’ which gestures fearlessness, reassurance and safety, as the symbol of the Congress party.

“Abhayamudra is the symbol of Congress…The Abhayamudra is the gesture of fearlessness, is the gesture of reassurance and safety, which dispels fear and accords divine protection and bliss in Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and other Indian religions…All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear…But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth…Aap Hindu ho hi nahi,” the Congress leader said.
