Son of Indian cricket great Rahul Dravid, Samit, took another step towards following his father’s path, as he earned a spot in India’s Under-19 squad for the Australia series. Samit was drafted into the India under-19 squad for the upcoming multi-format series against the Aussies on Saturday, courtesy of his superlative performances in the domestic spectrum in recent time. The three-match one-day series will be held in Puducherry on September 21, 23 and 26, and India will be led by Uttar Pradesh’s Mohammad Amaan.

Samit shared his delight at the honour. In a video shared by Star Sports Kannada, he said: “First of all, I am very happy to be selected and thank you for all your wishes. I think I am feeling great, I worked very hard for this moment.”

The series will then roll to Chennai for two four-day matches beginning on September 30 and October 7. The India squad for this leg of the tour will be captained by Soham Patwardhan of Madhya Pradesh.

Samit, a pace-bowling all-rounder, is currently playing for Mysore Warriors in the ongoing KSCA Maharaja T20 trophy in Bengaluru.

However, his outings so far have been underwhelming with the bat – 82 runs from seven innings with a highest of 33, and he is yet to bowl in the tournament.

But earlier this year, Samit had a productive time in the Cooch Behar Trophy, playing an important role in Karnataka’s maiden title triumph in the event.

The 18-year-old made 362 runs from eight matches and his 98 against Jammu and Kashmir stood out for its quality and fluency.

Samit also had a memorable tournament with the ball, where he claimed 16 scalps in eight matches, including two in the final against Mumbai.

Samit Dravid, son of former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid, showcased his power-hitting skills in the ongoing KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy. Samit finally got some runs under his belt, scoring 33 off 24 balls for Mysuru Warriors in their match against Gulbarga Mystics. The 18-year-old also slammed a six in the 10th over of the innings. He picked up Praveen Dubey’s googly and went inside-out to cover the ropes near the deep-cover region. A video of the same went viral on social media.

Here’s how internet reacted:

Samit smashed a 24-ball 33 with the help of four 4s and a solitary six. Meanwhile, Karun Nair‘s 35-ball 66 and a 13-ball 40-run knock from Jagadeesha Suchith took the Warriors to a strong score of 196/8 in their 20 overs.

However, the night belonged to Mystics’ K Smaran, who smashed an unbeaten century to guide his team to a win from a tricky situation.

Mystics were reeling at 104/5 in the 12th over, following a top-order collapse. However, Smaran build key stands with Wahid Faizan Khan (18) and Dubey (37) before winning the game on the final ball of the match.

With the scores tied on the penultimate ball, Smaran hit the winning boundary to stay unbeaten on 104 off just 60 balls.

This was Warriors’ second straight defeat after their narrow loss to Bengaluru Bulls a couple of days back.

Meanwhile, Warriors acquired the services of Samit, a middle-order batsman and a seamer, for Rs 50000.

“It’s good to have him in our side as he has shown a lot of promise in various age-group tournaments for KSCA,” a Warriors team official told PTI.

Samit was part of the Karnataka under-19 side that won this season’s Cooch Behar Trophy, and he has also played for KSCA XI against the visiting Lancashire side earlier this year.

Mysore Warriors squad: Karun Nair, Karthik CA, Manoj Bhandage, Karthik S U, Suchith J, Gowtham K, Vidyadhar Patil, Venkatesh M, Harshil Dharmani, Goutham Mishra, Dhanush Gowda, Samit Dravid, Deepak Devadiga, Sumit Kumar, Smayan Srivastava, Jasper EJ, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Sarfaraz Ashraf.

Samit Dravid, son of India batting great and former head coach Rahul Dravid, has once again gone viral for the uncanny resemblance with his father. Samit caught the attention of the fans with his brilliant shot for six during the Maharaja T20 KSCA tournament, which reminded fans of the similarities between him and his father Rahul. Samit, who was roped in by the Mysuru Warriors, maintained great body posture to smash a towering six during the match against Bengaluru Blasters.

Samit’s shot and body posture, however, reminded fans of his father Rahul. A video of the same went viral on social media.

Here’s how internet reacted:

However, Samit failed to notch up a big score, contributing just seven runs to his team’s total. In the end, Mysuru Warriors lost the game by four runs, after rain interrupted the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach of the Indian team came to an end in June earlier this year, with the Rohit Sharma-led side winning the T20 World Cup in his final game in charge.

Recently, Dravid hailed captain Rohit and said it was his privilege to work with the 37-year-old.

“I think it was a privilege to work with Rohit. In these two and a half years, I think he was a fantastic leader. People really gravitated towards him, the team. I think that makes a big difference. There were a lot of other senior players as well, whether it was Virat, Bumrah, or Ashwin in Test cricket that we played. So many of them–just because a lot of Indian cricketers are big names, and they are superstars, and rightly so, and they’re followed by so many people–sometimes people think that they have big egos and that they are very difficult to manage.” Dravid said.

The former India captain also said that people think that big players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others are very “humble” and don’t have any egos.

Rohit and Virat both announced their T20 retirements after the World Cup final in Barbados in June.
