Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Day 2 Live Updates: Pakistan have suffered an early blow with Abdullah Shafique getting dismissed by Taskin Ahmed. Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossian Shanto won the toss and opted to field against Pakistan on Day 2 of the second Test in Rawalpindi. No play was possible on the first day of the match as incessant rain played spoilsport in Rawalpindi. After losing to Bangladesh for the first time in Test cricket, nothing but a dominant win would help Pakistan make amends. Bangladesh players have rallied round teammate Shakib Al Hasan, the ousted lawmaker who faces a case of alleged murder connected to unrest that toppled the government earlier this month. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said his team’s maiden Test win against Pakistan on Sunday, in which all-rounder Shakib took three second-innings wickets, was a tribute to the hundreds killed during protests that forced former premier Sheikh Hasina from power. Bangladesh endured weeks of student-led protests that resulted in Hasina fleeing to India by helicopter on August 5, ending 15 years of autocratic rule.

Shakib, 37, who lost his job as a lawmaker for Hasina’s Awami League party when parliament was dissolved, is “a big asset of our country,” said Shanto in a post on Facebook late Monday.

“He’s been raising the name of Bangladesh in the world for 17 long years,” Shanto said.

Rafiqul Islam, the father of one of the hundreds killed during the civil unrest, filed a murder case against Shakib and 155 others in Dhaka on Thursday.

Hasina’s government was accused of widespread abuses, including the mass detention and extrajudicial killing of political opponents.

Hasina, former ministers and other ex-lawmakers are among those also accused.

Shakib has not spoken publicly about the case, but his teammates said they were offering him support.

“Such a case against Shakib bhai (brother) is unexpected,” Shanto added.

“In the new Bangladesh, we all want to see something new. I hope all the darkness will pass off and new light will come.”

Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim said on Facebook: “I have said it many times before, and I will say it again, I am proud to play alongside a champion like Shakib.

“As a teammate and a brother, I will be there during his tough times, and I do not support the false allegations made against him because I know he would never engage in inhumane actions.”

Bangladesh achieved their first victory over Pakistan in 14 Tests with a thumping 10-wicket win on Sunday after both teams struggled in hot conditions on a flat Rawalpindi pitch.

The second and final Test will also be played in Rawalpindi from Friday.

Pakistan were docked six points on the World Test Championship (WTC) table while Bangladesh were penalised three points for maintaining slow over rate during the first Test in Rawalpindi, the ICC said on Monday. Bangladesh recorded a historic, maiden Test win over Pakistan on Sunday. The landmark win came after 14 matches with Pakistan, where the Tigers had suffered 12 defeats and managed just one draw. This was Bangladesh’s first-ever 10-wicket win in Tests. Pakistan were deemed to be six overs short of the target and hence docked six WTC points and fined 30 percent of their match fee.

Bangladesh were found to be three overs short and docked three WTC points along with a fine of 15 percent of the match fee.

“Hosts Pakistan were found to be six overs short and lost six WTC points, while visitors Bangladesh were docked three points after being found three overs short of the acceptable rate,” the ICC said in a release.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5 percent of their match fee for every over their side falls short of the allotted time.

Additionally, as per Article 16.11.2 of the WTC playing conditions, a team is penalised one point for each over short.

Pakistan slumped to eighth position in the nine-team WTC points table after the defeat, while Bangladesh are placed seventh.

Besides, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10 percent of his match fee and received a demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

The second and final Test will also be played in Rawalpindi from Friday.

Pakistan were docked six World Test Championship (WTC) points for slow over rate during the opening Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. The Shan Masood-led side was found guilty of being six overs short during the encounter and as a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to dock six points. Pakistan also lost 30 per cent of the match fee after Masood pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the proposed sanctions. On the other hand, Bangladesh were also found guilty of slow over rate and they lost three WTC points and were docked 15 per cent of the match fee.

Due to the recent developments, Pakistan remain in the eighth spot in the WTC standings while Bangladesh dropped to seventh. South Africa move up a spot and are currently sixth.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was fined 10 per cent of his match fee and was given a demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Shakib threw the ball at Mohammad Rizwan during the 33rd over of the second innings.

According to release, Shakib was punished in accordance with Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

Coming to the match, spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan took seven wickets between them to secure Bangladesh’s maiden win over Pakistan in five-day cricket, a stunning 10-wicket victory in the first Test in Rawalpindi on Sunday.

Mehidy grabbed 4-21 and Shakib 3-44 to trigger a Pakistan collapse on the fifth day, with the home side dismissed for 146 runs in 55.5 overs.

That left Bangladesh a target of just 30 runs, which openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam reached in 6.3 overs.

Zakir (15) hit the winning boundary, with Shadman at the other end unbeaten on nine, as their squad celebrated a memorable victory.

Known to lose his calm in the middle of the match on occasions, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasa gave another example of his leaky temprament on Day 5 of the first Test against Pakistan. Shakib, who has caused disruptive scenes on the cricket much multiple times in the past, once again lost his cool as Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan took his team to be ready and face a delivery. Upset with Rizwan, who has also been at the center of many time-wasting tactics in the past, an angry Shakib threw ball towards the Pakistan star.

With Bangladesh needing quick wickets in order to win the series opener against Pakistan at Rawalpindi on Sunday, Rizwan was back to his time-wasting antics on the field. An unhappy Shakib, who was bowling the 33rd over of the second innings, threw the ball towards the Bangladesh wicket-keeper, with the ball flying over Rizwan’s head.

The umpire wasn’t happy with Shakib’s act and decided to scold him on the field. Here’s the video:

Bangladesh took a 117-run lead in the first innings, putting pressure on Pakistan to deliver on the 5th day. The visiting bowlers did well by sending 8 Pakisting batters packing for just 118 runs but Rizwan stood tall in the middle, holding one end to keep his team in the fight.

Earlier with the bat, Bangladesh put 565 runs on the board, in reply to Pakistan’s total of 448/6 in the first innings. Mushfiqur Rahim (191), Shadman Islam (93), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77), Litton Das (56), and Miminul Haque (50) were the top contributors with the bat for Bangladesh as Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to break partnerships at regular intervals.

Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah even criticised the pitch curator and the board for not giving the hosts a wicket where they could make the home advantage count.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh, 1st Test Day 4, LIVE Updates: Bangladesh fought their way back into the game on Day 3, ending on 316/5 at stumps, trailing Pakistan by 132 runs. Opener Shadman Islam played a fine knock of 93 to set the tone, while half-centuries from the Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das meant that Bangladesh stayed in the hunt. Rahim and Litton stayed unbeaten overnight, and have the potential to close in on, if not overtake, Pakistan’s total. A murder case has been filed against Bangladesh cricket team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, according to a report by Dhaka Tribune. The case was reportedly filed by Rafiqul Islam whose son Rubel was killed on August 7 amid the ongoing protests in Bangladesh. The report stated that Rubel was part of a rally that took place on Ring Road in Adabor and that is where he was shot in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital following the incident but he died on August 7. The case, which was filed with the Adabor police station in Dhaka, named Shakib as the 28th accused while popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed was the 55th accused. Both of them were former Awami League MPs in the parliament.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was also named in the case along with 154 others. Around 400-500 unidentified persons were also accused, the report added.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named ex-skipper Faruque Ahmed on Wednesday as president after the resignation of Nazmul Hassan, a close ally of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Nazmul, who also served as sports minister during Hasina’s 15-year rule, wrote to the BCB to resign, board chief executive officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury told AFP.

“His wish was granted,” he said.

More than 450 people were killed during a month of student-led protests against Hasina’s rule, before she quit as prime minister on August 5 and fled the country.

Chowdhury said Faruque was elected by the board’s directors and “took charge immediately”.

Nazmul had been BCB president since 2012, serving multiple terms, with his last tenure scheduled to end in 2025.

New president Faruque briefly captained Bangladesh in the 1994 ICC Trophy in Kenya and played seven one-day internationals.

He retired from the national team after the World Cup in 1999.

He also held the position of national chief selector between 2005 and 2014.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto believes that his team can pull out some “special things” against Pakistan in the two-match Test series and change their dismal record against the opponents. Bangladesh have never defeated Pakistan in a Test match. In the 13 Tests against Pakistan, the visitors have drawn one and lost 12. In the World Test Championship standings, Bangladesh are currently in the eighth position.

“No (pressure). It’s a record, (and) record can be changed. It’s not going to be easy, but as I said we have a balanced side. We believe we can do some special things this time. Players are really excited to play here,” Cricbuzz quoted Najmul as saying on Tuesday.

“I feel we had a good series against New Zealand but we didn’t play well against Sri Lanka. We have a good opportunity this time against Pakistan and I hope we’ll play good cricket here,” he added.

Najmul feels that this time their batters will rise to the occasion and put up a show to remember after showing a poor run in recent times. “We don’t want to do anything different (as a batting unit) as we all know our batting hasn’t been well in the recent past. But we’ve had good preparation this time. Players tried to prepare well as much time as they got. Everyone has the belief that our batting unit will do well this time.

“Besides, bowling is equally important to win a Test. I think we have a good chance as a team this time. Last couple of years we have had a good pace bowling unit. We have three-four quality spinners as well. So we (have) covered everything,” he said.

The Bangladesh captain urged his team to move past the recent civil unrest in the country, which led to the government being overthrown following a student-led movement. The resulting turmoil disrupted Bangladesh’s preparations, forcing the team to travel to Pakistan earlier than planned.

“Everyone went through a tough time…really sad. Everyone struggled. No one really wishes for it,” said Najmul. “Also there is no way to live in the past, we have to move forward. But it was a tough time for everyone, every family. Hopefully, we will have better days ahead. And as players, we want to play our game with the right mind,” he said.

The skipper further said that he doesn’t believe Shakib Al Hasan’s performance will be affected by the downfall of the previous government, under which the all-rounder served as a lawmaker.

“No, I don’t think so (Shakib’s performance being affected due to the political unrest). He is a professional cricketer, and we all treat him as a cricketer. He has played this game for so long so he knows his role, he knows how to prepare himself. I’m not thinking about his political career. I hope he will do something special in this series,” he concluded.

The first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
