England bowling great Stuart Broad has looked back at arguably the lowest point of his cricket career, and made a rather hilarious admission about it. In one of the most iconic moments in T20 cricket, Broad was smashed for six sixes in an over by India’s Yuvraj Singh during the 19th over of a match in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Looking back on it for the first time in 17 years, Broad admitted that Yuvraj could’ve hit seven sixes in a row were it not for a slip-up by the umpire.

Watching back the highlights of the over on Sky Sports, Broad cheekily said that it could’ve been seven sixes had the umpire noticed one of the balls being a no-ball.

After being hit for three sixes in the first three balls from over the wicket, Broad had chosen to bowl his fourth from around the wicket, hoping to get a different result. However, Broad bowled a full toss that Yuvraj whacked over point for six.

Looking back, Broad felt that the ball could’ve been called for a waist-high no ball, and then joked that Yuvraj could’ve hit him for a seventh six had it been called so.

“I’ve never watched that back, but I must admit, I got lucky to get away with a no ball,” Broad told former England captain Michael Atherton on Sky Sports.

“It could’ve been seven sixes!” the two joked after that.

Broad also admitted that he had never seen the footage of the six sixes back before this.

“I’ve never watched it. So thank you for the opportunity 17 years on,” he told Atherton.

In the historic game, India would end up winning by 18 runs. Yuvraj would go on to play another incredible knock of 70 off 30 balls against Australia in the semis, as India ended up winning the inaugural T20 World Cup.

The date September 19, 2007 is forever etched in the history of Indian cricket thanks to the brilliant feat achieved by Yuvraj Singh in the first-ever T20 World Cup. The left-handed batter produced a sensational show of power hitting as he slammed England fast bowler Stuart Broad for six sixes in a single over. It was the first time ever that a cricketer achieved the feat in T20 cricket and it was a moment that went on to define the shortest format of the sport. It has been 17 years since the knock but experts and fans are still in awe of the tremendous performance and Yuvraj took to social media to post a special message.

“Forever grateful to represent my country and for moments like these,” Yuvraj posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) along with a video package showcasing the six sixes against England.

Earlier, Yuvraj Singh picked his all-time XI. Yuvraj, who himself remains one of the most decorated cricketers the game has ever seen, made some understandable picks as he named his XI. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made the cut among Indian batters.

He started with Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting as the opening batters while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli came in at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots respectively. At No. 5, Yuvraj picked AB de Villiers, followed by Adam Gilchrist as the specialist wicket-keeper at No. 6.

At No. 7, Yuvraj went with Australian spin-bowling legend Shane Warne while Muttiah Muralitharan came in at No. 8 spot. In the pace department, Glenn McGrath and Wasim Akram filled the No. 9 and No. 10 roles while former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was a pick at the No. 11 spot.

When asked to name a special No. 12 player, Yuvraj picked himself in the spot.

As the ODI World Cup 2023 gets underway, England would be keen to defend their title, having won it with the narrowest of margins in 2019. Though not a part of England’s World Cup squad, Stuart Broad has faith in the England team’s ability to go the distance in the tournament. However, the team he arguably fears the most is that or Rohit Sharma‘s Indian side. Broad admitted that if India put their A-game on the table, it’s going to be very tough to stop them.

“If England manage to retain their World Cup title, it will be a phenomenal effort but my overriding feeling is that if India play their perfect tournament, they are going to be very difficult to stop. Jos Buttler certainly has the team to challenge, one with the ability to post high totals, but I just think India, as hosts and the top-ranked ODI side, will be a hugely difficult proposition,” Broad wrote in a column on Daily Mail.

“Contrast to England. Without sounding like I am giving them excuses, they have got a pretty tough draw, to be honest. They do not play two games in the same location, instead travelling from city to city. Others have the luxury of being able to book in somewhere for a week and play two games. They do not,” the former England pacer further said.

Broad also gave his predictions for the semi-finalists. He feels Pakistan and England would be there alongside India. For the 4th team, Brod went in favour of New Zealand over Australia.

“As for the other semi-finalists? Pakistan will be a threat. Their bowling is full of natural wicket-takers and is their huge strength. In players like Babar Azam they have some high quality batters but Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi can blow opponents away,” the 37-year-old further said.

“I’d then probably say New Zealand over Australia. Why? Because, New Zealand are the ultimate tournament team. Put their team sheets next to each other and you’d always lean towards the Aussies with Steve Smith, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, but New Zealand just find a way,” Broad concluded.
