Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib found himself in the news following a fiery send-off to Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli during their T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 encounter on Saturday. Tanzim castled Kohli and followed it up with an aggressive celebration that became a subject of discussion on social media. While social media users had various things to say about the incident, another cricketer who once gave a send-off to Kohli has joined the conversation. West Indies fast bowler Kesrick Williams once gave an infamous ‘notebook’ send-off to Kohli – an action that resulted in the India star taking him to the cleaners during a match in 2017. Williams took to social media to react to a meme where his edited image seemed to be telling Tanzim to get ready for a similar onslaught.

“Kez 2-1 Kohli,” he wrote while quoting the meme on his Instagram story.

During the time when he used to be a regular for West Indies, Williams used to celebrate dismissals by writing the names of the batters in an imaginary notebook. He did a similar celebration against Kohli during a limited-overs series in West Indies but it did not go down well with the India star.

When West Indies toured India a few months later, Kohli slammed Williams for 32 off just 12 deliveries and even did the same ‘notebook celebration’ to taunt the West Indies cricketer.

Meanwhile, Australia opener David Warner came in support of Virat Kohli and said the batter faces a lot of unnecessary criticism for his strike rate.

“It’s just his passion for the game, like, he’s got a knack for indetermination just for scoring runs and hunger to score runs. You know, he cops a lot of criticism, which is not right. I don’t know why he cops it, but there are a lot of people out there who are big Virat supporters, like all of us,” he said on Star Sports.

“Now, we’re in awe of the great players that have played this game, and we’re fortunate to take the field with. So, you know, for him, he consistently goes about his business how he does. You know, he scores a lot of runs. He’s a good team man and he competes hard. And that’s what we like about coming up against the Indian cricket team,” he added.

Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib gave a fiery send-off to Virat Kohli during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against India on Saturday. Kohli has struggled to score in the past few matches but the India star batter found his form back as he looked in control against the Bangladesh bowlers. During the ninth over of the India innings, Kohli decided to step out of his crease and attempt to hit the delivery from Tanzim straight down the ground. However, he missed the ball completely and it slammed into his stumps to end Kohli’s stay at the crease. Tanzim was visibly fired up after the dismissal and the video of his aggressive celebration has gone viral on social media.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to field.

“We would like to bowl first, we would like to restrict them to a small total and that is the plan. We know the conditions here and also about the wind factor. Looks a good wicket. 150-160 will be a good score I reckon. We have one change. Taskin is not playing,” Shanto said at the toss.

India captain Rohit Sharma said that they wanted to bat if they would have won the toss.

“We wanted to bat and that’s what we got. Looks like a good wicket and depends on how much the sun is beating down and making the pitch slow. Important to assess the conditions quickly. We are playing the same team. Important to stay in the present and not worry about other things,” he said.

Bangladesh seamer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for violating ICC’s code of conduct during their final group D match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against Nepal. The incident took place in the third over of the Nepal chase on Sunday when Tanzim had a verbal spat with Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel amidst a spirited spell at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. Tanzim bowled exceptionally well in the game and finished with a match-winning spell of 4/7 to help Bangladesh claim a 21-run win.

The 21-year-old was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match”.

The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, along with third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.

Tanzim admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and there was no need for a formal hearing.

Bangladesh’s win over Nepal ensured their progression to the Super Eight stage of the showpiece, with their next match coming against Australia in Antigua on Thursday.

Bangladesh stormed into the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024, with a thumping victory over Nepal. Asked to bat first, Bangladesh had a terrible outing as they got bundled out for just 106 as Nepal’s entire bowling unit equally contributed. However in the second innings, the tables turned completely in the favour of Bangladesh as they bowled out Nepal for 85 and won the game by 21 runs. Nepal, who were already knocked out from the Super 8s race, now ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a humiliating defeat.

On a lighter note, a wild celebration from a Nepal fan caught everyone’s attention. During Bangladesh’s innings, Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel dismissed Towhid Hridoy for 9, who was caught by Sandeep Lamichhane at short-fine leg.

As Hridoy walked back to the dugout, the camera shifted towards the stands, where a Nepal fan could not hide his excitement and jumped into a pool to celebrate the wicket.

Pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib‘s career-best figures of 4 for 7 with an astounding 21 dot balls headlined Bangladesh’s dominant bowling performance as they entered the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup.

Having nearly shocked South Africa in their previous game, Nepal bowlers were again on target, bowling out Bangladesh for 106 but Tanzim along with seasoned Shakib al Hasan (2/9) and Mustafzur Rahaman (3/7) bowled out Nepal for 85 in 19.2 overs.

Nepal were on course at 78 for 5 at one stage before losing their last five wickets for seven runs as a determined Bangladesh team used all its reservoir of experience after a disappointing batting show.

“As a bowling unit we bowled really well. We could have done better with bat. The top order could have batted tighter. Bangladesh bowled really well with the new ball. Losing 4 wickets in the powerplay put us under a lot of pressure. They were always challenging us, they bowled really well in the powerplay,” said skipper Paudel after the match.

“As a batting unit we need to step up, we need to know where to score runs and how to assess conditions. We’re up to the mark with our bowling and fielding. This team has great potential, we need to back each and every player, I feel we will do very well in the next World Cup,” he added.

The T20 World Cup 2024 was witness to a controversial moment during the Bangladesh vs Nepal match on Monday, involving a contentious DRS call. Bangladesh successfully defended 106, the lowest total ever defended in the men’s T20 World Cup, to beat Nepal by 21 runs on Monday at the Arnos Vale Ground, sealing progression to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Putting into bat first, Bangladesh were bundled for 106. But, Tanzim Hasan Sakib scythed through Nepal’s top order and Mustafizur Rahman‘s death bowling masterclass helped Bangladesh pull off the lowest successful defence in a men’s T20 World Cup.

The controversial moment happened when Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Jaker Ali were at the crease in the 14th over. The former was given LBW off Sandeep Lamicchane. Sakib even went walking towards the pavilion. Just then, visuals showed that the non-striker Jake was looking at one particular direction. And suddenly, he asked Sakib to go for DRS with less than a second left on the review timer.

The DRS call was criticised by social media, with some users asking, “how can the ICC allow this” in a T20 World Cup.

After suffering a 21-run defeat against Bangladesh, Nepal captain Rohit Paudel admitted that losing four wickets in the powerplay put his side under a lot of pressure but they fought back well in their last ICC T20 World Cup match.

Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 21 runs at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, defending the lowest score (106) in the big event’s history.

The captain lauded his bowlers for their superb performance against Bangladesh and admitted that the batters needed to play well. Paudel said they need to step up as a batting unit and assess the wicket a lot better and added that the team has great potential and he hopes to do better going ahead.

“As a bowling unit we bowled really well. We could have done better with the bat. The top order could have batted tighter. Bangladesh bowled really well with the new ball. Losing 4 wickets in the powerplay put us under a lot of pressure. They were always challenging us, they bowled really well in the powerplay. As a batting unit we need to step up, we need to know where to score runs and how to assess conditions,” Paudel said in a post-match presentation.
