Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz grabbed five wickets to help Bangladesh skittle Pakistan for 274 on the second day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Saturday. The 26-year-old recorded his 10th five-wicket haul in Tests to cap a good day for the tourists, who are looking to win only their third away series. Bangladesh finished the day on 10-0 despite opener Shadman Islam being dropped by Saud Shakeel off Mir Hamza on the first ball of the innings. But it was Bangladesh’s bowlers who steered them to a strong position.

Mehidy dismissed Pakistan captain Shan Masood for 57 and opener Saim Ayub for 58 after the home team had been well-placed on 99-1 at lunch.

He produced match-turning figures of 4-21 in Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win in the first Test a week ago, and snared Khurram Shahzad for 12 and then Mohammad Ali and Abrar Ahmed to end the innings with 5-61.

Mehidy was ably assisted by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who took 3-57.

Agha Salman, dropped on nought by Zakir Hasan off Shakib Al Hasan, was Taskin’s third wicket after scoring 54 with three boundaries and two sixes.

Taskin said he was happy to be back in the longer format of Test cricket.

“It’s a good sporting pitch and we need to bat the full day and get a good lead,” Taskin said.

“It’s great to be back in red ball (cricket) after one-and-a-half years. I enjoyed that and adapted well.”

Salman said the pitch was better than the first Test track and should provide help for the spin bowlers.

“Unlike the first Test, this wicket has lively grass and I believe we have enough runs,” he said.

Desperate for a win to level the two-match series, Pakistan started well but lost wickets at regular intervals to slump from a relatively strong 107-1 on a greenish but slow Rawalpindi pitch.

Taskin bowled first Test centurion Saud Shakeel for 16, the left-hander having already survived a dropped catch by Mehidy off Nahid Rana on one.

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s best batter, fell leg-before to spinner Shakib Al Hasan for 31, having now gone 15 Test innings without a half-century.

The first day’s play on Friday was washed out due to rain but Pakistan shone with solid batting in the first session.

Masood, under pressure after scores of six and 14 in the first Test, hit two boundaries before he fell leg-before to Mehidy in the third over after the lunch break.

Fellow left-hander Ayub was more aggressive, hitting two sixes and four boundaries before he was stumped by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Mehidy.

Taskin, brought in for the unfit Shoriful Islam as Bangladesh’s only change, bowled Abdullah Shafique for nought off the sixth ball of the match.

Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win in the first Test, also in Rawalpindi, was their first over Pakistan in 14 attempts.

Pakistan made two changes from the first Test, resting spearheads Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah to bring in pace bowler Hamza and spinner Abrar Ahmed.

The two-match series is part of the World Test Championship, with Pakistan now ranked eighth and Bangladesh seventh in the nine-team table.

Veteran Bangladesh cricket team fast bowler Taskin Ahmed missed the T20 World Cup 2024 match against India due to ‘oversleeping’, a report claimed. The report stated that the team management could not contact Taskin as he was sleeping in his room and as a result, he missed the team bus in the build-up to the encounter. A team official was forced to stay back at the team hotel as they could not contact Taskin and he joined the squad late at the venue. The report added that Taskin has apologised to his teammates for missing the team bus and the coach decided not to play him for the India game.

It came as quite a surprise for fans as well as experts that Bangladesh did not include Taskin in their playing XI and went with Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman as their only two fast bowlers.

“It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus,” an official told Cricbuzz.

“But why he did not play only the coach can say because whether he was in the plan or not (against India) is something that can be answered by the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha),” he said.

“If there was any issue (between coach and the player) how he played the next game against Afghanistan,” he said. “He apologized to his team mates and everyone for not being able to get up on time and that’s it and no need to make an issue out of it,” he added.

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has not made any comment on the matter.

India won the encounter against Bangladesh comprehensively by 50 runs. The Indian batters were in brilliant form as Hardik Pandya (50), Rohit Sharma (23), Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (36), and Shivam Dube (34) all scored runs to guide their side to an important victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite nursing a side strain, pacer Taskin Ahmed was on Tuesday included in Bangladesh’s squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in the Americas next month. Ahmed, who has also been named the vice-captain, picked up the injury ahead of the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe last week. But before that the 29-year-old had a great outing in the series, bagging eight wickets in four games at an impressive economy rate of 4.56. The Tigers will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, as all the familiar and experienced players have been included in the squad of 15.

Opener Litton Das too has been named in the squad despite his poor recent form.

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the senior-most player in the squad, having featured in every event since its inception in 2007.

Bangladesh will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, Texas. They have been clubbed in Group D, which also has South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal.

It will be their ninth straight appearance in the tournament, qualifying this time based on the T20I Team Rankings criteria set by the International Cricket Council.

Bangladesh squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Taskin Ahmed (vc), Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Tanvir Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan.

Travelling reserves: Hasan Mahmud, Afif Hossain.

Pakistan cricket team finally registered a win at the Cricket World Cup after four losses at the trot. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team had come into the game against Bangladesh needing a win to stay relevant in the semi-final race at the Cricket World Cup. They achieved the target in some fashion with a seven-wicket win over the Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh. The win took Pakistan to six points in seven games. They need to win their remaining games against New Zealand and England and hope for other teams’ results go their way to have chance to enter the last-four stage.

Bowling first, Pakistan restricted Bangladesh to just 204 with Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr picking three wickets each. While the bowlers were perfect, there was one moment in the game which left everybody in splits. In the 43rd over, Shaheen Afridi bowled a delivery to Taskin Ahmed down the leg. The ball looked like brushing off the pads. While Babar Azam turned down wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan’s appeal for a DRS, the latter was so desperate that went ahead and asked the batter about where the ball had hit.

Riding on Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique‘s half-centuries and bowlers’ brilliance Pakistan registered a 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday.

With this brilliant victory, Pakistan broke their four-match losing streak in the ongoing tournament, moving up to 5th in the points table with 6 points. Meanwhile, the ODI World Cup semifinal dream remained unfulfilled for Bangladesh.

Openers Zaman and Shafique scored 81 and 68 respectively while Mohammad Rizwan slammed an unbeaten 26, guiding their team to a 7-wicket triumph. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged a three-wicket haul.

Chasing a small total of 205, Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman was unstoppable in the opening Powerplay. During this time, the southpaw slammed four borders. This contained two outstanding sixes off Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, respectively.

He got good support from his partner, Abdullah Shafique, who garnered four stylish fours of his own in the first 10 overs.

“Nothing Much For Bowlers”: Bangladesh Star Taskin Ahmed On ODI World Cup 2023 https://artifexnews.net/nothing-much-for-fast-bowlers-in-this-world-cup-taskin-ahmed-4519441/ Fri, 27 Oct 2023 13:35:57 +0000 https://artifexnews.net/nothing-much-for-fast-bowlers-in-this-world-cup-taskin-ahmed-4519441/ Read More ““Nothing Much For Bowlers”: Bangladesh Star Taskin Ahmed On ODI World Cup 2023” »

Taskin Ahmed on Friday rued Bangladesh have been let down by the batting-friendly conditions in the World Cup, as they have not able to make much of an impact affecting their team’s performance. Having endured four losses in a row, Bangladesh have an outside chance of qualifying for the semifinals. The ‘Tigers’ need to secure big wins in all their remaining four matches and also have to pray that the other results go in their way.

“So far, I played in this World Cup and also I have been watching. It’s nothing much for the bowlers. It’s kind of batting friendly, all the grounds,” Taskin, who has just two wickets in three matches, told reporters on the eve of their clash against the Netherlands.

“On these batting-friendly wickets in India, the teams who have a long batting, they are getting benifited. None of the subcontinent teams, barring India, are able to do well. The teams who have been able to score big totals they are doing well and have more success rates,” he added, referring to especially to South Africa’s campaign.

South Africa have posted one 400-plus total and thrice they have gone past the 300-mark in this World Cup.

Taskin, who has been struggling for both form and rhythm, said it’s not about speed but skillset that would bring success in these conditions. “It’s not all about speed. Like we have seen there are express fast bowlers in the world, they’re also struggling, leaking runs,” he said.

“So, in this kind of conditions, it’s not all about speed. You need some variation skills and a game awareness. So, it’s not all about speed. You need a lot of skills to do well in this kind of surfaces,” said Taskin.

Taskin, who sat out of contests against India and South Africa due to his recurring shoulder injury, is all set for a comeback against the Netherlands.

“I had this shoulder injury for two years now. There is a tear in my tendon, there is a bit of soreness and I’m managing with it. I played the Asia Cup with it. I’m now feeling much better,” he said.

Asked if can he give his 100 per cent even with a niggle, Taskin said: “As a player, I always want to play. My doctor in UK told me that there’s no guarantee to get fit even after a surgery so it’s the last option. Every pacer in the world has some sort of a niggle.”

‘Shakib has not broken any rule’

A day after their 149-run rout by South Africa, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan left the team to travel back home in Dhaka to be with his personal mentor. Taskin said it did not affect the team spirit and went on to “appreciate” his dedication towards the game.

“He has not broken any rule. It was a rest day and since Kolkata is very close to Dhaka. He did not go for any other purpose rather than cricket and he took due permission.

“He spent four hours at batting practice and returned the next day. We really appreciated on how he’s so cornered about his batting. After his return had dinner together. The team atmosphere is good and we hope to start afresh,” he said.

‘Campaign not finished yet’

Bangladesh, defending champions England and the Netherlands occupy the last three spots in the table with two points from five matches each. Taskin remained hopeful that they still have a chance if they can win all their remaining four games.

“It’s not finished yet. Still four more games to go. If we can win those four, anything can happen because there are some run rates issue and also like a lot of teams like England and Afghanistan beat England they lost against Sri Lanka.

“So, if we can win (all) four, there will be (a) different story maybe but at the moment we are planning to go match by match. Yes, we didn’t play well enough as we expected from both units, batting, and bowling, but four games to go. So, we are looking forward to do well as well,” he said.

“We haven’t done enough well so there are a lot more improvements. But also, we know also that we are better than that. And we are capable. But yeah, we haven’t done great. So, hoping to do well in the next four matches.”

India vs Bangladesh, Cricket World Cup 2023: India and Bangladesh are set face each other at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on October 18 in match No. 17 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Both sides enter the match with contrasting form, making hosts India as the favourites to emerge victorious. India surpassed the Pakistan challenge in their previous match by seven wickets in Ahmedabad. After restricting Pakistan to 191 runs in the first innings, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer’s half-centuries drove India to a victory comfortably. India are unbeaten in the tournament right now with three wins in three matches.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, began on a positive note by beating Afghanistan in their opening match. However, they suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of England and New Zealand and are desperately looking to get back in form.

India and Bangladesh have squared off against each other in four ODI World Cup matches so far. Bangladesh defeated India in their meeting at the 2007 edition, while India went on to win the other three matches in 2011, 2015 and 2019.

Rohit Sharma vs Mustafizur Rahman

Rohit Sharma is India’s leading run-scorer in the ongoing tournament. He has scored 217 runs in three matches, which includes a century against Afghanistan. Rohit Sharma has also maintained an impressive strike rate of 141.83 in the tournament so far. He will have a crucial role to play in negating the threat of Mustafizur Rahman, who has an impressive record against India, with 25 wickets in 11 matches.

In the nine innings where Mustafizur has bowled to Rohit, the Indian batter has scored 129 runs in 122 deliveries, which also includes three dismissals.

Shubman Gill vs Taskin Ahmed

Shubman Gill is India’s leading run-scorer in ODI cricket and international cricket in 2023. He has scored 1,246 runs in 21 ODIs this year, which includes five centuries and five half-centuries. He was ruled out of the opening two matches for India, but returned in the third game against Pakistan. Against the new ball, he will have an interesting head-to-head against Bangladesh’s quick bowler Taskin Ahmed.

Taskin Ahmed has a terrific record against India, picking up 14 wickets in seven matches, which includes a five-wicket haul.

Virat Kohli vs Shakib Al Hasan

Virat Kohli is off to a good start in the tournament with two half-centuries against Australia and Afghanistan. He has a fantastic record against Bangladesh, scoring 807 runs at an average of 67.25, including four centuries. However, he has had a shaky record against Bangladesh’s star spinner Shakib Al Hasan.

In their head-to-head meetings, Shakib Al Hasan has dismissed Kohli five times in 11 innings. Kohli has managed to score 140 runs in 148 balls off the left-arm spinner so far in ODIs.

Shakib Al Hasan vs Ravindra Jadeja

Shakib Al Hasan will be a pivotal presence in the Bangladeshi batting order. The Bangladesh skipper has scored 751 runs against India at an average of 37.55, which includes nine half-centuries. He has scored 604 runs in 19 ODIs so far this year.

Shakib Al Hasan has had some trouble against India’s Ravindra Jadeja in the past, who dismissed the Bangladeshi all-rounder three times and conceded 87 runs in 107 balls.

Mushfiqur Rahim vs Shardul Thakur

Mushfiqur Rahim is Bangladesh’s in-form batter in the ongoing World Cup. He chipped in with a terrific 66 off 75 balls against New Zealand, which helped his side get to a respectable total. In 25 ODIs against India, he has scored 665 runs at an average of 31.66.

In the middle overs, he will be up against Shardul Thakur regularly and the Indian pacer has a knack of breaking partnerships regularly. He also has an impressive record against Bangladesh, picking up seven wickets in four matches. Although Thakur has not dismissed Rahim in ODIs, he bowled 22 deliveries and conceded only four runs to the Bangladesh batter.
