Adolf Hitler was the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945.

A private school in the US is making news for giving assignments to Class 8 students on Adolf Hitler, the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. According to Fox5 Atlanta, the students were given a series of questions asking them to rate some of Hitler’s characteristics as a leader. A screenshot of the question-and-answer assignment given by Mount Vernon School in Atlanta to the students has been posted on X by Fox5 reporter, highlighting the sections that are causing controversy.

In one of the questions, students were asked, “According to the Mount Vernon Mindset rubric, how would you rate Adolf Hitler as a ‘solution seeker’?”

Another one asked students to “rate Adolf Hitler as an ethical decision-maker”.

Both the questions included options like “Lacks Evidence, Approaching Expectations, Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations”.

The questions sparked an outrage with some parents expressing concern and questioning if these are anti-semitic in nature.

Students too found the questions “troubling” and wondered if the questions glorified the Nazi leader.

“Obviously, that looks horrible in the current context. Knowing Mount Vernon, we do things a little odd around here,” one student told Fox5 Atlanta.

One student said he can see the school’s intended approach to critical thinking.

“I can definitely see why they’d be upset, but overall, I think it’s important to look at both sides of the coin in every situation and I think it’s important to be able to compare and contrast everything that’s happened in our world history, whether it’s been good or bad,” said the student.

The outlet also spoke to some former students who said these questions weren’t given to them during eighth grade.

When school officials came to know about the phrasing of the questions, they removed if from the school’s curriculum.

The principal of Mount Vernon, Kristy Lundstrom, wrote in a statement that the assignment was “an exploration of World War II designed to boost student knowledge of factual events and understand the manipulation of fear leveraged by Adolf Hitler in connection to the Treaty of Versailles.”

Aquavis Hickman is being tried as an adult.

A US high school student, who attacked two teachers in school premises, has been hit indicted on assault and kidnapping charges, according to a report in Fox News. The outlet said that the attacks took place at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A video of 17-year-old Aquavis Hickman hitting one of the teachers in the classroom in April had gone viral on social media, leading to a barrage of comments. Hickman is being tried as an adult and his case has been moved from a juvenile court to a superior court.

Watch the video:

“A grand jury was convened last week, last Monday, comprised of members of this community and the grand jury returned two bills of indictment against the defendant now in this case, Aquavis Hickman,” Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill said at a press conference.

Mr O’Neill said Hickman “unlawfully confined and restrained” the female teacher on April 15 “for the purpose of terrorising her. That defendant was also indicted on that same bill for assault on a government official, that being a teacher, and finally communicating threats against that teacher.”

The legal officer said the student told the teacher that he was going to kill her, and the “threat was made in a manner and under circumstances which would cause a reasonable person to believe that threat was likely to be carried out, and the person threatened believed it would, in fact, be carried out.”

The viral video shared on social media shows Hickman violently slapping his teacher twice as well as abusing her.

After the teen slaps the teacher, she is heard asking him, “Do you think that affected me in any way?” “Want me to hit you again?” Hickman replies, while stepping up and repeating the question. “I don’t want it,” the teacher says, but he hits her again. He hit her so hard that glasses fly off her face while the teenager continues his profanity-filled rant.

“Ain’t nobody even coming. You got slapped. B****, go back to teaching,” says Hickman.

With Hickman’s arrest and indictment, the police wants to give a strong message.

“Our message to our community is simple. We stand with teachers. We will fight to protect those teachers. And if you lay a hand on a teacher and assault a teacher, you can expect that the punishment will be swift and severe,” said Mr O’Neill.

School district officials declined to comment on the case or Hickman’s arrest.

Of the 11 arrested students, three face felony charges.

Eleven school students in the US have been arrested for a violent fight at their high school. The incident took place at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Florida, on Monday afternoon in which the local police had to intervene. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office posted the edited bodycam video showing the chaotic moments on X (formerly Twitter). The faces of the students are blurred in the 2 minute 51 second clip but they can be heard screaming and pushing a policeman.

Of the 11 arrested students, three face felony charges, ABC News said in a report.

All of the schools in Flagler County have at least two school resource deputies assigned to each campus and the two officers “immediately assisted teachers and administrators in attempting to break up the fight and disperse the crowd of on-lookers,” the outlet further said quoting the police.

“During the fight, a female student pushed Deputy King so they could attack another student. Deputy King grabbed the student and placed her in handcuffs. At the same time, Deputy Landi was working to control the situation and observed a male student run into the altercation. Deputy Landi then observed the student charging at a school staff member while swinging his arms, ultimately punching the staff member in the shoulder,” authorities said in their statement describing the chaotic situation.

“Another school administrator was attempting to escort a student away from the fight, when another male student ran up to the administrator and grabbed them. The student then battered the administrator before being taken to the Dean’s Office,” the statement further said.

Eight of the students had affidavits filed with the State Attorney’s Office recommending charges to be filed against them for misdemeanour offences, police said.

“The lack of respect demonstrated by these students is simply shameful. But actions have consequences. Parents, be the Sheriff in your home and teach your kids the importance of respecting teachers, staff, and deputies. Teach them how to handle disagreements and that fighting only leads to more violence. We have a zero-tolerance policy for violence at schools, and you will be arrested,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.

School authorities said parents of these students have been notified and an investigation into the cause of the fight is underway.

Some students were “seriously affected” by the movie.

A school in Florida, United States, has come under fire after a mathematics teacher showed a horror movie to fourth graders which left them traumatised, as per a report in the New York Post. The students were expecting to have a fun day at school, however, it turned out to be horrifying as they witnessed “one of the most lovable characters turn into a murderous savage”.

On Monday, October 2, a class at the Academy of Innovative Education in Miami Springs watched the horror movie ‘Winnie the Pooh: Honey and Blood’ for about thirty minutes until it was turned off due to complaints from a few of the kids, the outlet said. As per IMDB, the horror film revolves around the characters of Pooh and Piglet seeking revenge after Christopher Robin leaves to go to university. IMDB has rated the movie 2.9 out of 10. Further, it is listed as an 18 by the British Board of Film Classification, while it is supposedly classified as NR in the US, indicating that it is not rated.

Michelle Diaz, the mother of a student at the school, told CBS News that the teacher was “careless” with his students. After meeting with the school’s principal, she said, “I feel completely abandoned by the school. They were exposed 20 to 30 minutes to a movie called ‘Winnie the Pooh, Honey and Blood’.He didn’t stop the movie, even though there were kids saying, ‘Hey, stop the movie, we don’t want to watch this’”.

Ms Diaz claimed that the teacher did not stop the movie despite the fact that some scenes made students evidently uncomfortable. She added that some students were “seriously affected” by the same. “It’s not for them to decide what they want to. It’s up to the professor to look at the content,” she told CBS News.

The Head of School Vera Hirsch, in a statement to the outlet, said, “The Academy for Innovative Education has become aware that a segment of a horror movie was shown to fourth graders, Monday, October 2, 2023, that was not suitable for the age group. Our administration promptly addressed this issue directly with the teacher and has taken appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of students.”

She added, “We are actively monitoring the students and our mental health counselor and principal have already met with those students who have expressed concerns.”
