Dehradun:

Over a dozen Kanwariyas were booked for allegedly assaulting the driver of an e-rickshaw and damaging the vehicle with bamboo sticks in Haridwar district in the presence of policemen, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near a mill in the Libberhedi area along the Delhi highway in Manglaur, they said.

The group of Kanwariyas attacked the e-rickshaw driver named Sanjay Kumar and his vehicle as he had allegedly hit one of them, who left unharmed.

In a PTI video, a group of about a dozen Kanwariyas can be seen attacking the e-rickshaw with bamboo sticks while the policemen try to pacify them.

A case under different sections of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita has been registered at Manglaur police station against unidentified Shiv devotees.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief on the loss of lives in the accident.

New Tehri:

A woman and her two minor nieces died after being run over by a speeding car allegedly driven by Jakhnidhar’s assistant block development officer in Tehri’s Bourari area, police said on Tuesday.

Reena Negi (36) was taking a walk with her two nieces — Anvita (seven) and Agrima (10) — on the Palika Karyalaya Road at around 7 pm on Monday when Jakhnidhar’s assistant BDO D P Chamoli knocked them down, Tehri’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) J R Joshi said.

Chamoli, who was driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested on Monday, officials said.

On Tuesday, he was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court, the ASP said.

Chamoli’s medical examination report confirmed that he was drunk while driving, Chief Medical Superintendent of district hospital, Dr Amit Rai, said.

Two other people sustained injuries in the accident, and are currently receiving treatment at the district hospital.

Accused Chamoli has been booked under sections 279 (rash or negligent driving), 337 (causing hurt by negligent act) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC, the ASP said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief on the loss of lives in the accident.

On his orders, Chamoli has been suspended, the officials said.

Reena died on the spot, while the girls were declared dead upon arrival by the doctors at the district hospital, ASP Joshi said, adding they were cremated here on Tuesday evening.

The Bourari market remained closed on Tuesday to mourn the deaths.

Haldwani, Uttarakhand:

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat got minor injuries when his car crashed into a divider in Udham Singh Nagar district, police said.

According to information received, the senior Congress leader along with some of his workers was going from Haldwani to Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar late on Tuesday night when the accident happened, they added.

While trying to overtake a vehicle near the Bajpur railway crossing, the driver of Rawat’s car lost control of the vehicle and it collided with the divider, the police said.

Mr Rawat, who was sitting in the front seat at the time of the accident, received minor injuries, they added.

Mr Rawat today took to X to share about the incident.

In a post in Hindi, the former Chief Minister said he suffered mild injuries when the car collided with the divider, following which he went to the hospital for a checkup and doctors said everything was fine and discharged him.

He added, “…There is no need to worry. Me and my colleagues are fine.”

Yogi Adityanath is on a visit to Uttarakhand to attend the meeting of the Central Regional Council.

Badrinath:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday visited the Sundar Nath cave in Badrinath Dham and offered prayers. He is on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand to attend the meeting of the Central Regional Council.

On Saturday evening, Yogi Adityanath attended the Shayan Aarti of Badrinath Dham, had darshan, and worshipped as per the rituals.

He also participated in the meeting of the Central Regional Council held at Narendra Nagar in Tehri. After that, he visited various areas of Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister also went to the Ghastauli post near the China border at an altitude of 13,200 feet and met the ITBP personnel deployed there, inquired about their well-being, and encouraged them.

He also attended the 24th meeting of the Central Zonal Council held in Narendra Nagar, Tehri on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also part of the meeting.

Later today, the Chief Minister may also visit the Kedarnath temple in Rudraprayag district.
