Charith Asalanka was the star for Sri Lanka as he slammed six runs in the final two balls of the match to guide his side to the Asia Cup 2023 final after a win over Pakistan. Asalanka was unbeaten on 49 off 47 deliveries and he was able to finish the game well after Kusal Mendis provided them with a brilliant start to the run chase. However, the one cricketer who has earned a lot of praise besides these two was Pramod Madushan who sacrificed his wicket to get Asalanka back on strike on the fourth ball of the final over.

Madushan missed a ball from Zaman Khan and although Asalanka made a run for it from the non-striker’s end, he stayed inside the crease to make sure that they cannot be dismissed if the wicket-keeper comes up with a direct hit. Rizwan went for the direct hit but was unable to hit the stumps.

Once Asalanka crossed over, he started running and although Zaman was able to complete the run-out on the other end, Asalanka was back on strike and that proved to be the game-changer.

Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad was all praise for Madushan.

Great game awareness from Pramod Madushan yesterday night. Did not leave the crease until Asalanka made it. Very impressive. @ashwinravi99 probably one of the finest at making good use of the rules would be v impressed,” Prasad posted on the X (formerly known as Twitter).

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin replied to his post with an interesting analogy.

“Absolutely! Just He missed the ball, Asalanka was charging down the pitch ( high octane pressure ) and yet this guy stood his ground until the keeper missed his attempt and then started running. All I can say is that these sort of reactions come from practice and this happens mostly in Tennis ball cricket,” he replied.

The 2023 G20 Summit in New Delhi, a two-day mega conclave of world leaders under India’s presidency, successfully ended on Sunday. PM Narendra Modi handed over the G20 presidency to Brazil’s Lula Da Silva, marking the end of the Summit. The Prime Minister handed over the ceremonial gavel to the Brazilian President to mark the transfer of the Presidency at the third G20 session “One Future” at the Bharat Mandapam in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan congratulated PM Narendra Modi for the “success of India’s G20 Presidency”.

“Congratulations to Hon. PM @narendramodi ji for the success of India’s G20 Presidency and for fostering unity between nations for a better future for the people of the world,” the superstar posted on X.

“One Earth, One Family, One Future , beautifully said.” former Indian cricket team pacer Venkatesh Prasad wrote in reply to that post.

One of the biggest critics of the Indian team, Venkatesh Prasad, hasn’t believed in mincing his words while expressing his opinions on cricketing affairs. Having publicly criticised KL Rahul and a few other cricketers in the past, Prasad took a swipe at the Asian Cricket Council most recently, after the governing body announced an exceptional ‘Reserve Day’ for the India vs Pakistan Super 4 clash. While Prasad’s decision to take a swipe at the Jay Shah-led ACC got fans’ attention, a post from him on X (formerly Twitter), triggered an even bigger storm.

But, Prasad decided to delete, suggesting the post was being comprehended in an unexpected way. But, the former India pacer then decided to share the post once again, this time with a few alterations.

“It takes one corrupt, arrogant guy to take away the hardwork of an otherwise non-corrupt organisation and spoil the reputation of an entire organisation & the impact isn’t just micro but at a macro level. This is true in every field, be it politics, sports, journalism, corporate,” Prasad’s fresh post read.

When an X user had asked Prasad about the reason for deleting his tweet, he said: “That was a general tweet where I spoke about how one person who is corrupt can undo a lot of good work of his organisation and it can have large-scale implications on a macro level as well in any field. Since I was also speaking about the inefficiency of the BCCI around tickets in other tweets, it led to confusion and looked out of context. Hence deleted,” he said.

Prasad had earlier also criticised the BCCI over the manner in which the tickets for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup have been put up for sale. Be it the selection matters in the Indian team, the functioning of the board, or the performance of individuals, Prasad hasn’t flinched while sharing his critical opinions.

The decision taken by the Asian Cricket Council to keep a reserve day for the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India and Pakistan was met with a lot of criticism. It was the only match that was given a reserve day and as a result, both fans and experts were not pleased with the decision and called for all matches of the tournament to be treated equally. Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad took to social media to express his disappointment at the situation and he even said that he wishes that it rains throughout the two stipulated days in order to stop the ‘malicious plans’ from succeeding.

“If true this is absolute shamelessness this. The organisers have made a mockery and it is unethical to have a tournament with rules being different for the other two teams. In the name of justice, will only be fair if it is abandoned the first day, may it rain harder on the second day and these malicious plans not succeed,” Prasad posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Prasad feels that the Indian team are strong contender for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup from October 5 in India. The former pacer believes that the Indian team is in possession of a “good squad” but the support from the fan base will also play a crucial role in their journey.

He urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure that the experience of the fans should be easy and smooth in comparison to previous years.

“We have a good team and are strong contenders for the World Cup but we need genuine fans inside the stadium cheering for the team and their experience needs to be far smoother and easier than what it has been, and for that the BCCI needs to do far better than they have done so far. It is a reflection of the country as a whole and we as a nation should not be let down at any cost,” Prasad posted.

Earlier on Saturday, he lambasted the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) decision to have a reserve day only for the match between India and Pakistan in the Super four stage of the Asia Cup 2023.

The former Indian bowler slammed ACC’s decision and said it is unethical to have different rules for two teams.

“If true this is absolute shamelessness. The organisers have made a mockery and it is unethical to have a tournament with rules being different for the other two teams. In the name of justice, will only be fair if it is abandoned the first day, may it rain harder on the second day and these malicious plans not succeed,” Venkatesh wrote on X on Friday.

ACC on Friday announced a reserve day for the match between India and Pakistan which is scheduled to take place on September 10 at R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. If adverse weather suspends play during the India and Pakistan game, the match will continue on September 11 from the point it was suspended.
